  • A close up of the finished floor, it almost looks like old leather. 15
  • I did the whole 10 X 12 room for about $80, but any future room will cost about $30. That's cheap flooring! 11
  • Gluing the paper down using a 50% Elmers glue %50 water mixture. This part took forever. 10
  • Here is the paper going on, this is about 10 hours in (spread over multiple days). 6
  • Mopping on the stain. 6
  • After 12 coats of poly! I know people say this all the time, but it honestly look much better in real life. It just looks shiny in the pictures. 8

Paper Bag Floors

If you are in need of new flooring but don't have much money to spend (or even if you do) then this fits the bill! I created this floor out of brown paper, Elmers glue, stain and ...»
polyurethane. It was easy to do (albeit time consuming) and is very durable. This room is 10 X 12 and cost about $80, but future rooms will cost about $30 since I have plenty of leftover supplies. I should add Sheryll, that what is showing through is not necessarily glue or grout, it's the ...»
outline of the tiles themselves. if you were working on a solid surface that wouldn't happen, but I still do think that anything really dark underneath will probably show since what is happening is the paper is becoming opaque once it's wet, but even in my dried finished pics, you can still see that outline, it doesn't bother me either, and the overall look is nice, so no one ever really notices. part of the "imperfections" are actually what gives it character.

And oh my yes, I sure do know exactly what you mean by life gets in the way of your life. lol. If there were only 24 more hours in each day, lol.

Old Door and Plumbing Supplies

Sliding barn door hardware costs hundreds. We used simple supplies from the hardware store to hang this awesome old green door that I found at ReStore for $10. The complete cost of the ...»
project was less than $40.

IF the table is presswood and not real wood, be VERY careful with any sanding, it the veneer ...»
or finish is worn down, don't go too deep with sanding or you'll expose the fibers, you do not want any moisture getting to the presswood material. of course, If it's worn and exposed, then you have no choice but to prime it, in hopes that it will seal up and prevent moisture from getting into it and swelling.

There are many places to get stuff to control fire ants. I've used granules (very fine) that ...»
you sprinkle on and then water in. I've got some stuff from sevin that goes in the broadcast spreader, it's for fire ants, ticks. fleas, grubs etc. It goes on the entire lawn area and in beds etc.

  • Showing off how lovely he is. I can see a vase like this on a bedside table or on a tray with tea in the garden.
  • Here it sits on top of the coordinating table runner.
  • Running out of time? Use buttons instead... and suddenly your jar is wearing a sweater. Kind of. :) Still cute!

Mason Jar Vase - With Fabric Flowers

Using scraps from a table runner that I had whipped up, I created a charming and sweet vase to act as our centerpiece. I used tweed (it looks rustic, much like its friend - burlap) to ...»
wrap around the vase and to create the little rosettes. I love how it turned out!

  • This is dandelion tea... well, no, not really. I took a picture of the dandelions in the teacup. Once the dandelions get wet, they close up and look awful.
  • See what I mean about shriveling? Here we are cleaning the dandelions and taking off some of the green stuff which can make the wine bitter. Oh, this is for the dandelion wine.
  • Adding the sugar to make the wine.
  • Adding lemons and boiling the dandelions.

Dandelions and what to do with them

I've been looking at all the dandelions all over the place and decided to do some research about what to do with them (other than pull them out!). I came up with some pretty cool stuff. ...»

I decided to make dandelion wine (which is fermenting as I write this). :) That's all the pictures I have right now. I'll update this as we see what happens about the wine. Wish me luck!

You can make dandelion jelly, dandelion health drinks, use the greens in a salad and much more...

Have a great weekend. Linda

Dandelion greens (boiled with some kind of salted meat) is very good, my mom (from ...»
Newfoundland) and her "clan" would eat this as often as they could get ahold of the dandelion.

New plantings in the front of my store

Used an old wooden recycled dresser drawer, drilled a few holes and lined with a black trash bag, and of course many other odds and end pieces that I've collected, rusted out coal bucket, ...»
etc. I also filled up the bird bath and planted in that area too.

Gardening: Invasion of Kudzu Bugs....HELP

I have a wisteria next to my house that is covered by these bugs, they are literally so thick the vines look black...it's horrible. I would like to know if anyone else has successfully ...»
gotten rid of them and what they used. The other problem I have is that the vine is growing on a very tall pergola...so I may actually have to get on a ladder to spray anything. I'd also like to know if using a sprayer connected to the hose would be more effective for getting whatever I spray all over these vines, that are way up high.
