About Me:

SAHM. Wife. Blogger. Lover of all things creative and beautiful. :) "Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." ~ Oscar Wilde

Favorite area of home improvement:

My favorite area of home improvement is definitely woodworking. There are so many pieces of furniture that are expensive and built poorly. I love that I can build a piece for cheaper but be built so much better.

Gather Flowers for a May Day Basket!

neighborly rite of spring back!

Very simple and fun besides: just gather fresh blooms from your spring garden, insert them into a glass or small vase of water in a charming little basket and add a bit of ribbon. The tradition when I was growing up was for children to place them on a neighbor's door, ring the bell and run away as fast as you could so you weren't caught. Hiding in nearby bushes to see the recipient's surprised expression was half the fun. Try this fun little activity with your children or on your own, or place a May Basket on your own door to officially welcome spring.

Guide to Picking Lumber for your DIY Projects

When purchasing your lumber pieces always inspect each piece. You don't want any cracks or splits. You also want to check for warping or bowing. Minor bows or warps can be fixed when nailed but otherwise pass the other pieces up. Check out my site for other tips on picking out the best lumber for your DIY projects.

  • Cute container gardens that are sure to catch the eye. 1
  • Step One: Buy 2 umbrellas with the colors of your choice. Match your paint at your local hardware store to ensure a perfect result. 1 quart per colour will do the trick.
  • Step 2: Paint several coats of latex paint to cover.
  • Step 3: Sketch your face on the drum with pencil. Paint your details using a good artist brush and acrylic craft paint.
  • Step 4: Fill the bottom of the drum with styrofoam and top up with good quality container garden soil mix.
  • Step 5: Plant each barrel with 3 - 12" mixed hanging baskets per drum. Fill in with soil. Add 2 cups of Slow Release Fertilizer and water well.
  • Ensure that you secure your umbrellas so they do not blow away on a windy day!

DIY Wood Kitchen {EAT} Sign

I made this sign last weekend with some leftover plywood. Just traced out the letters and cut them out with a jigsaw. It's not perfect and a little rustic just like I like it. :) I love the way it came out and for all of the cost of nothing.

DIY Pieced Woodwork Art {PB Inspired}

This piece was inspired by one of PB's expensive pieces. $400 for pieced together wood just wasn't in the works for me but $30 definitely was. I spent less than a day last weekend putting ...»
this together from start to finish. If you want to do it yourself then I would suggest staining the wood prior to piecing them on the board. I drew out the design beforehand and proceeded not to follow it at all. haha! The only reason I label this on moderate difficulty is because power tools are required to cut the wood, unless you want to miter box all the pieces.
