We've done the black plastic too. Cheap and a great backdrop. Maybe some paper lanterns ...»
grouped in the corners in the school colors. Remember that even though things are covered up , they are still there. One too many beers may cause Uncle Ned to topple into the place where the rakes and hoes are hung and.......OUCH!

Home Maintenance & Repairs: How can I clean out an old drywell?

At the bottom of my concrete outside basement steps is a small round perforated steel drain plate. I assume that this leads to a drywell, but over the course of 60+ years, the well is ...»
completely full of silt and mud. Water that collects at the bottom of the stairs eventually drains out (over a period of days) but a heavy rain will quickly overwhelm the area, and water comes in under the basement door.

I haven't been able to pry the drainplate off, but could probably chip out enough concrete to do that if I thought I could get the muck out of the well by removing it.

Covering the basement stairs is a possibility, but not an easy one in this case.

Any suggestions?

  • To the left you can see the homeowner is able to use the under deck for their car. On the right, you get a better look at their new deck!

Have you thought about converting your garage roof into a deck?

This Atlanta homeowner used AridDek aluminum decking to convert their garage roof into a deck. They are able to enjoy the luxuries of a deck, but also, the convenience of a waterproof area below for their belongings and cars.

My Basement Framing Studio

These are pictures of a room in my basement that I turned into a custom framing studio. There is still a bit of work to be done, but it is totally useful the way it is.

Insulating Garage Doors

Insulatingthe garage, will keep it warmer in the winter and cooler in thesummer. Same for the garage's adjacent room. ...»

***Bonusadded: it will also reduce street noise too***

Ourtwo car garage is right underneath our upstairs bedrooms, and rightnext to our bedroom, so we knew we had to do something about that.

Replacingthe garage doors would be nice, but not necessary, so the very nextbest thing was to insulate the garage doors.

Weread a lot of info, and what we settle on

doingwas using this a reflective foil insulation. It comes in rolls andit's easy to cut

(scissorsor knife).

Forthis to work properly, there is a need to create an "air pocket"between the actual door and the insulation.
