Cleaning & Organization: Keeping the toilet plunger/toilet brush sanitized between uses.

I'm looking for a way to store my toilet plunger and toilet brush in a more sanitary manner. I was wondering if anyone has an idea or two for a liquid 'storage' solution (like the stuff ...»
they use in barbershops to keep the combs sanitized). My plunger is 100% hard rubber, so I need something that won't eat away at it. Right now, I just use a small bathroom trash can. It's great for keeping the floor dry, but the ick-factor is up there. I also have cats, so I'd prefer something that is pet-friendly (their litter box is in the bathroom). Thanks!

A few suggestions. Never use any sort of metal cleaning type of pad or any abrasive pad for ...»
that matter when cleaning porcelain. Once scratched it will always become difficult to clean and will dirty up much faster.

SOS with a bit of elbow grease and a good sponge should remove any leftover marks on the toilet.

Where can I get a shower head pipe extender?

I bought a double shower head for my master bath. The pipe that extends from the wall is very high, and I have been unable to find an extender for it. Went to Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. and they don't even know what I am talking about.

If all else fails, contact the manufacturer. Sometimes these folks can be most helpful.

    Hi Joyce, ...»

Great question. To answer with my opinion, I would say that it is worth the money to have it professionally done. Usually it's not expensive, and the pros will prep the surface thoroughly and spray the epoxy on for a more even finish. Anytime I have seen the DIY applications, it does not look to great.. usually showing a lot of brush strokes.

fb that fresh lemon - cut in half and rub over the marks and it rinses away! Have never tried this but it may be worth a try. I find scrubbing bubbles foam works so well with such little effort, I haven't felt the need to try anything else. It lets me be lazy and put off the cleaning and still works LOL

Bathroom: Advise about putting in a glassed, two sided master bath shower

My husband and I have gutted our master bathroom and we want to put in a glassed shower. We are looking at a quartz base and one glassed side will be the door with the other two sides tiled to the ceiling. Advise/cautions.

Tim, we were looking at a quartz base that Lowes carries now. It reminds me of solid surface ...»
material and can be used instead of building a shower base. We have done that before and it was not fun, so we wanted to do a "ready made" base. We are tiling two walls because the shower sits in the corner and then have two walls of glass with one being a door or three sided with the door being centered across the "right" corner. We are trying to figure out which one gives us the most door clearance.

  • Picture of the current box in ceiling with location of vent.
  • Location of the existing fan over the shower
  • The top controller is the timer for the dead vent/fan.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Replacing a defective bathroom vent

For starters, I'm not very good at home repairs, and finding this website is a Godsend to me. Things look simple to do, but for some reason, they don't wind up simple when I start doing ...»
them. So, any advice or assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I live in an older home, built in 1968, and the bathroom vent over the shower does not work. I've lived in the home for about 9 years now, and I don't think it's ever worked, but now realizing the importance of replacing it, due to some paint on the ceiling beginning to crack, and a couple of mold spots here and there. I took the vent cover off, and can tell that the fan is one of those squirrel cage type fans, or the shape of a snail shell. The metal box that the fan sits in is pretty much rusted through and through. Replacing the fan seems relatively simple, but a couple of questions I have are here:

(1) The size of the existing box, and hole in the ceiling is 9.5 x 10.5. It seems that I am going to be looking for a fan that meets these specs? I see fans that are smaller in size, but that would leave an opening around the fan. How is a situation like this resolved?

(2) You can see in the picture where the existing vent in the rustied out box is located. When I look at fans online, the location of the vent hole on the fan seems to be in a different location, such as the other side of the fan. Am I looking for a fan with the vent in the very same location?

(3) The proper removal of old and installation of new is to remove the rusty box currently in the ceiling, replacing it with a new fan that meets the same dimensions and specs as the old box, correct?

This fan is/was controlled by a timer switch on the wall. I am wanting to replace it with a standard on/off rocker switch.

All in all, from what I am describing, do I sound like I'm on the right track for replacing this fan? There are so many things around my house I want/need to fix/upgrade, and just having the confidence and know-how can get me up and running.

Thanks,

Ron

a great option for replacement without replacing is to install an inline fan such as from fan ...»
tech. It couldn't be simpler for the DIY'er.

simply cut the ducting and splice inline, or run new insulated ducting for a more silent and condensation resistant professional install. then disconnect electric from old fan and connect to new inline fan. usually a junction box is needed, always use proper connectors and a lid...

In the midst of a bathroom renovation at our church the member overseeing the project (a ...»
construction o. supervisor) urged us to just level and then tile over the old 1960 tile job. To save money we agreed but the subcontractor HE contracted wouldn't do it, seeing it as a bandaid over bad. Luckily we listened to him as the flooring supports were rotting and would have failed. Think of how long a tiled shower will be in place. Now divide that by the extra cost of doing it right. It will probably work out to pennies a day.
