Remodeling: Miracle Method Bathtub Refinishing

Has anyone ever used this company before, or know of anyone who has used it? Does it work, and hold up well? Anyone in the Katy/Houston area in particular? Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It is a "painted on" thing that I was looking into. @Carol... I hadn't thought of Rebath. ...»
Thanks! I'll check into that also. Thanks for the heads-up about the price KMS! I was actually wondering if it was as 'cheap' as they were saying. lol! Tho, probably still cheaper than putting in a brand new tub, which we don't really need. Just wanted to replace that outdated blue-marble-swirl color to make it fresh and (almost) new again. lol! @Arrowhead... it was cracks I was concerned about. Thanks for the heads-up on that too! Well, I will definitely being doing more research on this. Thanks guys!

The New Toilet Saga

Replacing a toilet in an old home can be accomplished by yourself, but it is NOT easy due to the "rough in". A plumber may be necessary. Read our saga with our tips at the blog. ...»

Toilets only come in 12 inch and 10 inch standard rough ins.

We had 11.25 inch rough in. However....

(Cost is based on toilet plus plumber.)

  • Old storage room, narrow and GREEN!! We saved the shelves for another purpose.
  • We divided the storage area into two spaces w/a door in between. This the new bathroom bench. The space just outside the door is the closet/dressing area. We used vinyl tile for the flooring, it is grouted too. LOVE it. easy/cheap
  • New bathtub at the far end of the space shown in the first GREEN photo.
  • This is the large bedroom that the new bathroom is off of. The door to the bathroom space is just out of sight on the left.
  • Before paint in kitchen. Don't ya love the 1970's light in the foreground top? We changed that out first thing.
  • This is the new kitchen paint color. Love the color, now to work on the pink counter tops.
  • This is faux paint finish in the Living Room. It was just not the color nor the pattern for me. :(
  • This is the after paint treatment. Chocolate brown and a nice pale tan color.
  • Before pink walls :(
  • After, light tan walls :)

New Bathroom!!

We turned a storage room into an en suite bathroom. The space is much better used now.

The house was also pink everywhere, so we are beginning to change the colors slowly. Will one day change the pink counter tops too.

  • Aqua glass tile with subway, sheet tile.

Easy Inexpensive Subway Tile

We installed beveled subway tile on sheets in our bathroom. It is a fairly easy tile job, but more labor intensive than the slate tile floor I posted. ...»

We had to install and tape the cement board. That was fairly easy. Measure and cut with a utility knife, tape, and screw on.

We arranged the tile on the floor to plan the pattern. I lined up the pattern with the bead-board plank wall.

We started in the corner because of the window.

We rented a wet-saw from Home Depot, but we waited until we had to make the cuts, so we only had to rent it for one day. The saw worked well, but not on small cuts; tiles shattered. So we then purchase da ten dollar tile cutter for the smallest pieces.

Tip 1!!!! The mastix has to be white when one installs glass tile otherwise its true color won't show.

Tip 2!!! A big sponge and a large bucket is great for washing off the grout.

Once the grout has dried for a couple of days, seal it. The water will bead on the tile and it will stay nice for a long time! Reseal every six months or when you notice that the water is no longer beading.

Cleaning & Organization: Keeping the toilet plunger/toilet brush sanitized between uses.

I'm looking for a way to store my toilet plunger and toilet brush in a more sanitary manner. I was wondering if anyone has an idea or two for a liquid 'storage' solution (like the stuff ...»
they use in barbershops to keep the combs sanitized). My plunger is 100% hard rubber, so I need something that won't eat away at it. Right now, I just use a small bathroom trash can. It's great for keeping the floor dry, but the ick-factor is up there. I also have cats, so I'd prefer something that is pet-friendly (their litter box is in the bathroom). Thanks!
