Powder Room Gut Renovation

Last year, we gutted our 1982 powder room and replaced the wallpaper, vanity, sink, toilet, lighting, mirror, and floors {got all that? Ha!} Although we lived without a bathroom on the ...»
main level for a long time while my husband was getting around to finishing it, I think the end result was worth the wait!

The sink and toilet are from Lowe's {Kohler} and the lighting and mirrors are from Restoration Hardware. All trimwork and paint were done by the homeowners. Well, one of us...the other one just nagged and then took photos. Guess who! ;-)

Thanks! We had to take it down to the studs for a couple of reasons. 1) I KILLED the drywall ...»
with the wallpaper removal...it was a mess, and 2) removing a full vanity and replacing the floors...we figured we might as well go big or go home. ;-)

  • This is the before. very large and really bad design. and no seat. But it did have two shower heads.
  • We increased the overall size and moved the door to the center and added half walls to allow for the display of glass.
  • On the right side we added a seat. They still have two shower heads and a lot more interest for the area. Dark Emperador Marble tile as well as glass with tumbled stone and additional emperador for the band. faucets are oil rubbed.

Wow what a shower !

Wow what a shower before, very odd design. We enlarged this shower and made it more the focal point of the very large bathroom.

  • reclaimed and repurposed was the design format for this bathroom. 6

my repurposed bathroom is my favorite project thus far.

the vanity, drawers & pulls were repurpose/reclaimed from interiors of walls, parents shed & vintage faucet knobs. the sink was a free find on craigslist. the mirror was a garage sale find for $3 which was stripped and waxed before hanging. the vanity lights were made using new conduit & wiring, vintage porcelain single bulb fixtures and metal shades bought from ebay. you can see the before / after on my blog, the 1829 farmhouse:

Bathtub Options

Hi Everyone,

Attached is a photo of the existing shower/tub that my brother wants to replace. Together we're going to replace the tub and then tile around it using either ceramic or porcelain. The questions is this, what type of tub material should we use (e.g. cast iron, fiberglass, etc.)? I've read the Americast Tub by American Standard is a great option but wanted to get everyone's opinion on this renovation. Thanks :)

Cleaning & Organization: I would like suggestions on cleaning those horrid fiberglass shower floors.

The second bathroom in my condo off my son's bedroom is in need of a major clean up. The areas I need suggestions for is the floor of the shower, walls are tiled (I have a solution for ...»
that), also looking for suggestions on clening the caulked areas between the floor and tiled areas. No window, so ventilation is an issue. Also have major knee problems, so spending long periods of time on my knees is an issue. Appreciate any & all suggestions. Thanks!
