Does anyone know of books or magazines showing how to make a simple headboard for a twin bed?

My granddaughter and I made a headboard for her double bed when she was in law school. She ...»
made it so she could either hand on wall or stand behind bed. She purchase a piece of plywood and had them cut to her measurements. Bought padding and approx. 1/2" foam padding to cover board. Padding stapled to board first, then cotton padding over that to make it puffy. She drilled holes in plywood at intervals to pull buttons yarn through. Once she had the padding on she covered everything with a suede type material in color of her choice and pulled covered buttons, in this case about 2" she had covered in matching fabric and stapled down on back of plywood.

It not only turned out beautiful, but that was about four years ago and she is still using the headboard with a little updating today. I had some collapsible saw horses we laid board on to work on it. I helped her because I have always sewed, but she did most of the work and really is a novice. Try it, you'll like it!

Bedroom: Linen sheets? Yay or nay?

I'm considering investing (yes investing!) in a set of linen sheets. These are not inexpensive (at least in my book) because so far my biggest splurge was 100% organic cotton. So, the question is, has anyone out there purchased linen sheets and do you think it's a good choice? I love the look of them but have never had them. Thanks!

  • What can I do with that corner? 2

Design & Décor: What would you do with this awkward nook?

I have a very large master bedroom (20x25) but I have this awkward corner with windows that I can't figure out what to do with. Currently we have the bed with the headboard against the wall on the right side of the photo. We could move it elsewhere in the room, but this is the nicest location for privacy reasons.

I considered building in a window seat, but it is just too small. The space is only about 3 feet wide. I am even struggling to figure out a window treatment ...»

since the edge of the window is right against the closet wall. I also considered ripping out the closet and eliminating the niche, but there isn't really a place to put in a new closet.

Any ideas?

Under bed storage system

I saw this under bed storage idea on pinterest. When I click the image to get more info nothing happens. I am trying to find out what I would use in order to lift the mattress. Where would I purchase such a mechanism? Hoping someone out there has the solution for me.

  • Here are pics of the rooms, since whatever the door color ends up will ultimately be on the inside doors as well I figured they would be helpful. You can't see the door, but it's on the right.
  • My initial thought was to paint the doors black to pick up the color of the appliances, but now I'm not so sure. 1

Painting: I need help with this space! Should I paint the doors a color, stain them a darker color or leave them alone?

I know I need a runner :), but what color would you think would be best? The door straight ahead leads to the back, and the other doors lead to bedrooms. The back door has way too much ...»
'yellow' in it. It just doesn't work with anything. Thanks for your help!

Design & Décor: Need some advice

We just remodeled our Mbr and it still needs some tweaking. We used sea glass colors and lots of shells in the room. I just painted the armoire and I want to paint the jewelry armoire but ...»
what color.I'm a monocromatic person so I don't usually use dark or bright colors. should I add some turquise items on the dresser? When we walk into the room, I want a Wow. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and even constructive criticism. It has to be accessories because we spent all of our money on the remodel.

Some tips...buy pre-primed molding if you intend to paint it (it will make your life 100% ...»
better...HA...raw wood soaks up a lot of paint!) and if you are staining it, make sure you buy the "stainable grade". Be careful you do not get above your skill level! And do you plan to use a coping saw? Molding is an art and anyone can learn it...but you sure better have a lot of patience. However, home improvement stores have fittings for the corners which do not require as much fitting talent! I redid a small bathroom and put in small turned square like dowels in the corners....precious. They make them in all sizes and designs. If you have convex and concave corners, uh oh! If you have a friend that knows how to do this, ask for some lessons! That is how we learned to wallpaper!
