Cleaning & Organization: Vintage screen part two.

I took a good look with my glasses and it seems that the designs on the screen were once a green color and have quite a bit of rust. I'm wondering if I should do some restoration along ...»
with a good clean using the proper product. I think using a rub on color in a dark green might work??? I need to stop the rust. I guess a sane person would call me wish washy but I need your input to make a decision

Decorating With Wood Barrels

I have become obsessed with all sorts of vintage style pails, barrels and crates and was thrilled to find my own little treasure at a local thrift shop for a mere $5! Here are some photos ...»
that have inspired me for both indoor and outdoor uses of different types and sizes of barrels. I would love to get my hands on more for some possible wedding decorations... You can check out my blog at the link below to view the rest of the photos.

Love My New Retractable Clothesline

I know, I know. . . it looks like Ma, Pa and Lil Junior have their laundry out to dry, but save the jokes and share the clothesline love. Drying clothes outdoors is great for the ...»
environment, pocketbook and clothing, and now I finally have one.

My laundry room is right off my kitchen and on hot days I can really heat up the house if I'm feeling particularly domestic (okay, so maybe it doesn't happen very often, but the point is that it does happen). While I finally have a main floor laundry, I don't have direct access to the backyard without trekking through the basement. It was my husband who suggested a deck-sized line might work, and that was the all the urging I needed to locate a small 20 foot retractable line for about $13.00 at Home Depot. They also carry a 40 foot version for under $20.00.

The line was super easy to install and is small enough to stay unobtrusive (unless it's strung out across your tiny deck with swimwear pinned along it). I was so excited to hang my laundry on the line for the first time, no matter how it looked (thankfully the neighbors don't have a clear view). Maybe it's because I know it's a great alternative to heated drying or because I can't help but think of my Nannie and her old clothesline; but for whatever reason, it makes me smile. . . and this is laundry we're talking about.

Cleaning & Organization: Can you get the smell out of a chest freezer from spoiled meat?

thinking they are going to have to get rid of the freezer because of the horrible smell now. Is there anything they can clean the inside with that will get rid of the smell left by the spoiled meat?

I've had to do this several times when my in-laws would go out of the country, they would have ...»
power outages at their house...The best thing I have found was take a large bowl and pour about a liter of Coke into it. Close it up and let it set inside about 24 hrs. Adding baking soda to the mixture didn't seem to make much of a difference but I did use Coke & baking soda to wipe out all the blood/fluid that may have leaked out. Sometimes I had to repeat the bowl of Coke 2 or 3 times, throwing out the previous bowl until the smell was gone. You have to make sure to get ALL the defrosted fluids out of the cracks or grooves. I didn't start the freezers back up until they were clean because once it refreezes it seems like whatever else you put in there will absorb the smell.

DIY Cake Stand Kitchen Organizer

getting sick of my dish soap & hand soap lying around so I wanted to make something to clean it all up. I made this stand using a dollar store tray & a candlestick. I simply spray painted the two pieces & glued them together with super glue. I also added a bowl with white rags inside to cut back on our paper towel. They are super handy & great to bleach and keep clean for some "green cleaning". Check the post for all of the photos and info. Hope you guys love this simple DIY :)
