Cleaning & Organization: Leftover smell of smoke in car

My sister finally gave up smoking 2 years ago but the smoke smell is still in the car. She was told it would cost $600.00 to remove it as they would have to take the car apart. Is there another way of getting rid of this smell. Thank You

Cleaning & Organization: Dust in the desert

I need help! I live in the Phoenix area and have not adjusted to the dust from the environment. When I dust furniture using the common aerosol sprays, 5 minutes later the furniture has ...»
more dust on it as if the spray attracts the dust. When the pet cat walks across it the foot prints are maximized and looks worse than when I started. What can I use to eliminate the dust and not have prints and smears?

Cleaning & Organization: How to clean film from newly installed white subway tile in shower.

I just had my shower redone after experiencing a leak. I used white subway tile. I noticed many of them have a film that doesn't wash off and others feel rough. I am assuming it is from ...»
the grout. What is the best way of cleaning these? Thanks.

The film and roughness is the result of the installer not properly wiping down the surface ...»
after applying the grout. I recommend going to your nearest big box home store or hardware store and making two very inexpensive purchases...a textured tile sponge and some cheese cloth. Wet the sponge in a bucket of hot water and thoroughly sponge off all of the tile surface. This will remove the rough spots you referred to as well as much of the haze. Let the surface completely dry. You will still see a light dusty haze or film. Using the cheese cloth will remove this. Just use the cheese cloth similarly to how you used the sponge and all the haze will come off. If it is a very large area, you may need to use additional cheese cloth as it becomes filled with dust. Should be easy!

Cleaning & Organization: I've had my stove (Maytag) about two years and have never cleaned the

oven. Until recently, it didn't need it. Now it does. I've never had a self-cleaning oven until this one and after quickly reading the instructions, I'm hesitant to turn it up to 500 degrees for so long. Is it better to do that or to clean it with an oven cleaner? Oven cleaning has never been a favorite thing of mine. Which works better? Self-cleaning or DIY? And if DIY, what's the easiest way to do it? In the past, I've always bought something like Easy-Off, but would rather go a more natural way, if possible.

Cleaning & Organization: Getting smoke smell off artificial leather

I picked up a 'leather' looking chair someone had put out next to the road. It was beautiful burgundy on rollers. I stopped and loaded it in the back of my truck on my way to work. Didn't ...»
notice the smell till I unloaded it much later at home. I have tried window cleaner, orange oil cleaner, Pine Sol, leather cleaner, dish soap and have stopped short of bleach. NOTHING is working! I have the chair out on my covered porch and when it is really humid or rainy the smell about gags me. REALLY hate to pitch it, there just has to be something else I haven't tried yet. Any suggestions???

Cleaning & Organization: Does anyone know how to clean a very dirty "fawn" color leather couch?

When I bought these two couches in 1999, they cost me like $6,000+. The back cushions are not tacked down by anything and they are always getting squished down and well the thing looks ...»
sloppy (wish I'd known that they would do that before I purchased them! Que Sera, Sera!) and now with 3 toddler boys and others the color doesn't even look like what it was. They've been pretty beaten up; however, the frame is strong and they were expensive, what to do or is there anything I can do? They have been cleaned by people using the worst things so they are really in bad shape as far as the leather goes. Is there a way to re-stain them? (Though every scratch in the leather will show up pronounced, wow, I'm talking myself out of this!)

Cleaning & Organization: Cigarette smoke stains

My parents had some beautiful black and white etchings that are now mine. However, they were heavy smokers and although the prints were framed, the smoke penatrated and gave them a yellow cast. Is there any way of removing this stain?

Cleaning & Organization: Keeping the toilet plunger/toilet brush sanitized between uses.

I'm looking for a way to store my toilet plunger and toilet brush in a more sanitary manner. I was wondering if anyone has an idea or two for a liquid 'storage' solution (like the stuff ...»
they use in barbershops to keep the combs sanitized). My plunger is 100% hard rubber, so I need something that won't eat away at it. Right now, I just use a small bathroom trash can. It's great for keeping the floor dry, but the ick-factor is up there. I also have cats, so I'd prefer something that is pet-friendly (their litter box is in the bathroom). Thanks!
