Cleaning & Organization: I've had my stove (Maytag) about two years and have never cleaned the

oven. Until recently, it didn't need it. Now it does. I've never had a self-cleaning oven until this one and after quickly reading the instructions, I'm hesitant to turn it up to 500 degrees for so long. Is it better to do that or to clean it with an oven cleaner? Oven cleaning has never been a favorite thing of mine. Which works better? Self-cleaning or DIY? And if DIY, what's the easiest way to do it? In the past, I've always bought something like Easy-Off, but would rather go a more natural way, if possible.

If you read the manufacturer's directions on cleaning they tell you never to use oven cleaner. ...»
Once you do, the finish will be messed up and the auto self clean will no longer work as it should. There should be no concern to use the ovens auto clean cycle. It is designed to do that and its safe. Just be sure however to keep things you do not want to get hot away from the vent area located normally along the back edge of the oven along the area of the top burners. Also check to see if its ok to leave the oven grates in. Some auto clean tell you to remove others say its ok to leave them in.

Cleaning & Organization: Getting smoke smell off artificial leather

I picked up a 'leather' looking chair someone had put out next to the road. It was beautiful burgundy on rollers. I stopped and loaded it in the back of my truck on my way to work. Didn't ...»
notice the smell till I unloaded it much later at home. I have tried window cleaner, orange oil cleaner, Pine Sol, leather cleaner, dish soap and have stopped short of bleach. NOTHING is working! I have the chair out on my covered porch and when it is really humid or rainy the smell about gags me. REALLY hate to pitch it, there just has to be something else I haven't tried yet. Any suggestions???

Cleaning & Organization: Does anyone know how to clean a very dirty "fawn" color leather couch?

When I bought these two couches in 1999, they cost me like $6,000+. The back cushions are not tacked down by anything and they are always getting squished down and well the thing looks ...»
sloppy (wish I'd known that they would do that before I purchased them! Que Sera, Sera!) and now with 3 toddler boys and others the color doesn't even look like what it was. They've been pretty beaten up; however, the frame is strong and they were expensive, what to do or is there anything I can do? They have been cleaned by people using the worst things so they are really in bad shape as far as the leather goes. Is there a way to re-stain them? (Though every scratch in the leather will show up pronounced, wow, I'm talking myself out of this!)

Cleaning & Organization: Cigarette smoke stains

My parents had some beautiful black and white etchings that are now mine. However, they were heavy smokers and although the prints were framed, the smoke penatrated and gave them a yellow cast. Is there any way of removing this stain?

Cleaning & Organization: Flooring

When we moved into our '78 one floor home, we had the carpeting cleaned well. This had been a rental house and there were many pets in here. Now, the odor is unbearable. The flooring is ...»
not hardwood.

We know this will be quite a project throughout the entire house.

My question is can the flooring be treated to totally eliminate the urine odor?

Thank you!

out. It works better than all those expensive "stain removal" sprays. You might also try pouring hydrogen peroxide on the stain. It will NOT bleach out colors but get stains such as blood out. Not sure about coffee, but it may be worth a try.

Cleaning & Organization: Keeping the toilet plunger/toilet brush sanitized between uses.

I'm looking for a way to store my toilet plunger and toilet brush in a more sanitary manner. I was wondering if anyone has an idea or two for a liquid 'storage' solution (like the stuff ...»
they use in barbershops to keep the combs sanitized). My plunger is 100% hard rubber, so I need something that won't eat away at it. Right now, I just use a small bathroom trash can. It's great for keeping the floor dry, but the ick-factor is up there. I also have cats, so I'd prefer something that is pet-friendly (their litter box is in the bathroom). Thanks!

Cleaning & Organization: Getting the smell out of my washing machine??

I accidentally left stuff in the washer overnight and naturally when I remembered, the machine and its contents smelled like mildew. I rewashed everything, but now the washing machine ...»
still has a faint smell of mildew. How do I get rid of it? Preferably I need something very natural and safe because I'm pregnant and don't want to use any dangerous fumes. Thanks in advance.
