Love the doors. What a great idea to modernize them with a geometric pattern.

3 Tips to Keep Your Shared Closet Organized

Keeping your shared closet organized can be quite challenging, with two wardrobes and two potentially different organizing styles. Thankfully, smart planning and a team effort to keep it all in order can make sharing a breeze. Here are three tips to make your shared closet an efficient and harmonious space.

1. Divvy Up. Mixing both wardrobes together within the closet creates chaos, so divide the closet space into two zones, one for each of you. This will simplify ...»

finding the items you need each day. Separate zones not only streamline the process of finding the items you need each day, but also accommodate your unique organizing styles. Perhaps you like to organize your shirts by color, while your partner organizes by sleeve length; with a divided closet, you can each personalize to your heart's delight.

2. Design with Sharing In Mind. When designing your shared closet, keep each person's specific needs in mind. If one of you has several dresses, long robes or coats, plan sections with plenty of vertical hanging space. If the other has quite a collection of ties, belts, or scarves, pullout racks placed in their zone are just the ticket. Customize your design to the exact needs of your wardrobes, and your daily routine will be effortless.

3. Organize Together. Carve out time at the beginning of spring and autumn to sort through your closet together, deciding what to keep and what to donate. Organizing together will keep you both on track, maintain your beautifully organized space, and make the process of starting and ending each day a pleasure.

  • At least it looked nice and neat with the door closed! 1
  • Such a disaster... we couldn't find anything in the jumbled mess, and heaven forbid it was at the back!
  • So you empty first, and knock those shelves out! 1
  • It was small closet sized, we repaired any wall damaged and painted. the strips are from the wood they used to hold the former shelves up.
  • My production line for painting. 8
  • I used a left over Behr semi-gloss for the first 2 coats. But finished it off with a nice coat of gloss.
  • You can see the aluminum channel he used to hold the shelves. Smart hubby. 1
  • I can see everything! We did add one more shelf up high a little later. And the bottom shelf is about 8 inches from the floor, so I can clean! 5
  • Everything has a place. So nice. No more digging around to find things. 10

Pantry Remodel!

The standard pantries in the house we bought last year were almost unusable. Long deep shelves and only 3-4 of them in a large closet sized area. Thank heavens they had doors. I designed ...»
the shelves, my husband cut them out of MDF boards, I painted them with several coats of paint, and he installed them with aluminum channel. The channel allowed use of the shelf all the way to the back of the space. I counted and measured all the things in my food pantry to make the plan for how many shelves, how wide, tall and deep they needed to be. See the beginning and end result. It's so nice to be able to find things now. It turned out so nice, we did the 2nd pantry where I keep dishes, plastics, and mixed items for the kitchen!

Buying new closets - need advice

We're buying new closets for 2 kids rooms. I'm not sure whether to have them custom made or to buy ready-made from a furniture (or big box) store. ...»

Of course, custom made is more expensive, but there are a number of advantages:

1.maximizes space, both vertically and horizontally, since it's made exactly according to the wall size.

2.We can pick out the Formica, knobs, wood, pattern, etc. to suit our (my wife's) taste.

But... is it worth it?

Does anyone have advice for us? We'd like to make an educated decision.
