Cheapest way to make a large retaining wall

I have almost 1/3 of an acre backyard that I will be re-establishing soon, and one of the projects will be a 2-3 ft tall retaining wall that will be approx. 25 feet in length - it will be very visible! What are some attractive and less costly ideas? (I'm putting tiers into a sloped yard hoping to correct the drainage problems.) the concrete is gone and the sand will be mixed in with new top soil and mulch. The wall will follow the far curve and extend out 10-15 ft.

Thanks Marcy and John! Lori a parge is a mortar mixed specifically for a certain job and then ...»
an area is prepared and the parge is "skimmed" over an area. There is a special material that can be ordered that is fire resistant, like what firebrick are made of and the heat won't make it explode.

do something like this for yrs. They told me to make

2x4 's in a square and put ply wood on the bottom then use kerosene like a coat of grease to grease it up. Put in your rocks shells or pretty stones in what ever shape you want and then pour in the concrete and let dry. Tap your square out and then do it again :)

You may need to use muriatic acid to remove this stain. Be careful and use gloves and eye ...»
protection. Try a small out of the way spot to assure it will not discolor the cement. It tends to make the cement white so the results may be worse then the stain. But acid is used all the time to remove stains on cement products. Also once done regardless of what you end up using, be sure to flood the area well with water or it can have bad results with grass and plants if its gets onto the lawn or garden.
