Gardening: How Do I Prevent Weeds From Growing In Concrete Expansion Joints?

I know there is some sort of elastic caulk I can apply within the joints of sidewalks and other areas of concrete that will prevent weeds from growing. Does anyone know the name of that product?

Thank you all for the replies. I picked up some Concrete and Mortar caulking for large ...»
cracks/joints but it looks like it takes 48-72 hours for a full cure. I'll have to wait for a stretch of dry days before I can apply it. The way it's been around here, I won't have to wait long.

  • The flaking is visible in two spots in this photo. 1

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Top layer of 50 plus year old concrete patio starting flaking off top layer in two spots. Can this be fixed?

These two areas began flaking shortly after I put planters and hanging baskets in this area. Thinking maybe fertilizer may have something to do with it.

Is there a way to fix or patch this short of taking out old cement and replacing?

Painting: Need design help/fireplace/brick wall Paint ?

Here are additional photos of the end wall of the den. This is a long room. I have the den at the end with the fireplace.I have the sofa angled toward the fireplace. As previoudly ...»
mentioned I can not remove the embedded beam as it is 6/8 inches in depth. The fireplace has gas logs. Paint the entire brick wall? Cream? White? Add mantle? If so would you extend it to the firewood box since it is so close to the fireplace? Even though I am not a rustic kind of gal I do like the dark ceiling beams with the wood floor. Sorry for the crappy photos! Help!!

Probably already said, but you can construct over the existing mantle with a new one to hide ...»
the old, and for the brick front, install a stone face on it.l Just be sure that the existing fireplace support in the lower level or basement can support the extra weight. It appears you have had a lot of great advice. Be sure to show us what ever it is you end up doing.

Painting: Need design help with brick wall/fireplace

I am at a lost as to what to do with this wall. The rustic style is not my thing. This wall is at the end of the den/dining room. We can't remove the wood insert as it has a depth of 6-8 inches. Any suggestions? Paint it?

Yes, please more photos to help us see what else is in the room and the rest of this wall ...»
    would help also.

My first thought was to make a tapered mantel that would slide over this one but without a better view of this wall I'm not sure that would work. At least not on the ends.

Tile over concrete patio??

We have between 750-800 sq ft of concrete (good condition) patio around our pool. Rough texture, tough on the feet. It has settled is areas, but no cracks or mess. Trying to come up with a cost effective way to resurface - either plain concrete over the old?? Pavers?? Tile?? Or do I need to consider ripping it all out and just doing pavers?? Hate to have to chop this all up - installed 1977- just had the pool redone - so the patio looks yeechy!! Any suggestions??? Oh, we are in central CT. This pic is pool before!!

Thanks..
