Remodeling: I want to paint my bedroom furniture. Do I have to strip it?

The furniture has a thin layer of varnish. I know it is thin because my daughter spilled nail polish on it and when I wiped it off the varnish and the color came off the drawer. I want to do it in a matte white/cream. Any suggestions? Thanks

Design & Décor: Best installation for slate patio?

hi! We salvaged some slate from a torn-out patio that we'd like to create a new patio with. It's irregular in shape, and is 1/2"-1" thick. Is a concrete base the only way to instal this, ...»
or could we use a gravel/sand base? The patio planned would be roughly 10' round. Thanks!

Design & Décor: Turning bedroom sitting area into walk-in closet but where can I get custom closet doors?

I would like to use bi-fold doors but the opening is ~8ft x 7ft which are not common at all. So I am open to any suggestions of other types of doors. Also, any suggestions on a custom ...»
door supplier that could make doors to fit this space? Also notice the top corners are not the usual 90 degree angle. If there are any contractors willing to take on this job, I am open to hearing from you as well.

Painting: Mirrored Bedroom Wall

Hello, I have a wall in my bedroom that has really become quite an eyesore. The ENTIRE wall is mirrored!! It is 8ft high and approximately 11 ft wide. I have contemplated building shelves ...»
with open backs to let mirror show through. I have also thought of looking at frosting tutorials, and stencilling but STILL have not been truly inspired. Does anyone have any ideas, or finished projects perhaps that they can show me to possibly inpire me with this wall??? Removing it is a BIG pain, and can be quite messy (already went thru that on a wall downstairs living space). These mirrors WERE quite popular in the mid 90's and I never thought I would grow tired of them.....but I have! I also have them in TWO side by side bathrooms on first floor, LOL. The broken pieces and small shards of mirror STILL sit in a very large bucket on my deck because I refuse to throw away. I know I will have an artistic revelation later and want to use in a mural? I don't know, I just know they did cost a lot of money and are very difficult to remove without breaking. So I figure to use that wall to a greater potential, i just have to find a solution to work with it. Thank You Maria Salcedo

it a really low cost project. I can't wait to see how it comes out. You can find some really great patterned ribbons to use to hang the frames :o)

Design & Décor: I need to add something... WHAT?

I need to add something above this bed, but NOT a mirror. Any suggestions.

The room is a neutral guest room ~ nothing too personal.

I would move the framed art from the wall on the right and add more to a larger scale on top ...»
of the bed. And maybe add a bit of bright color... needs a pop of color to my thnking. I hope you find the perfect touch that makes you happy.

Design & Décor: I have a 1962 house with wood cabinets and nearly new white appliances in the kitchen.

What can I do to update the cabinets? Paint them white too? Or some other solution? I am going to sell the house.

and then with crackle medium, after painted the top layer with beige paint. I put all new knobs on them too. It gave me an old new look.

want to mix farm/western. Any neat ideas out there. I am in the process of painting my living room. My kitchen has cabinets made of old wood. I really like them. Had them made. We are about to restain my counter tops and add family brands to them. I need ideas for living room. Don't want southwestern or the stuff you see sold in western stores. I have ropes, lanterns, his old wore out cowboy hats I had to beg him to quit wearing. I have 8 grandchildren, so it has to be livable and practicle.
