Renter's Backsplash

I'am a RENTER and as a renter you are limited to your choices and Home Decor. I rent this townhouse and the owner came in and put in new counter tops and it left the kitchen half new & ...»
half old and I needed a pop of color. So I went online for a solution and I found several DIY for renter's backsplash. Saw the pictures and read the instructions and set off to find the following supplies: Table Placemats, and way to hold them in place, which I chose doublesided tape so it would be easy to remove without damaging the walls and a pair scissors. Since my kitchen is a small area I purchased 10 Benson Mills Bamboo Placement for a $1.00 each from Big Lots(I only used 8). Proceeded to apply double sided tape to placemats (make sure walls are clean) and put the mats in place on the wall. Here is my finished product. There was 1 inch gap between the cabinets. So I filled in the space with a cut down(cut to fit) version of the placemat. So far its working......

Design & Décor: I've had my stove (Maytag) about two years and have never cleaned the

oven. Until recently, it didn't need it. Now it does. I've never had a self-cleaning oven until this one and after quickly reading the instructions, I'm hesitant to turn it up to 500 degrees for so long. Is it better to do that or to clean it with an oven cleaner? Oven cleaning has never been a favorite thing of mine. Which works better? Self-cleaning or DIY? And if DIY, what's the easiest way to do it? In the past, I've always bought something like Easy-Off, but would rather go a more natural way, if possible.

I only use the self-cleaning in the winter when I won't mind the extra heat, but I do use it ...»
at least once a year. for smaller clean-ups I put a bowl of ammonia in the oven at night and leave it sit at least over-night. The next morning (or afternoon if I'm lazy) just remove the bowl and wipe out the oven. The fumes actually loosen up all the gunk and you can just wipe it off. For really tough spots on the oven glass, use a paste of baking soda and water, wipe it on, leave it sit for a bit, take a slightly damp sponge, and wipe it off, add a bit of salt for really baked on spots, to get rid of the last of the baking soda, spray white vinegar on it, watch it foam and bubble (remember that elementary school volcano), then wipe off with a clean towel. Polish the outside of the glass and any stainless with hydrogen peroxide, spray it on and wipe off with a dry cotton towel.

Lookin for an Innovative Way to Display Your Pictures?

So fun, so innovative...$3.00 project. Don't ya' just love it when you find some old vintage wares around your house that you can repurpose? I am all about thinkin outside the box with ...»
what I can do with a plain, simple item. I'm sure that thousands of other folks in Fishersville, VA saw this as a simple masher, but I saw it as something different, and for $3.00, I couldn't resist! Seriously, this project only cost us $3.00, as I had the clothes pin, the homespun and, of course, a gazillion pictures of Miss Cutie Pie (aka Bella).

So, with a potato masher that is 9" in height, and about 2.5" in in depth, as our kitchen window is narrow, coupled with a piece of homespun that I frayed the ends, wood glue and an old clothes pin, here's what makes washing dishes much more enjoyable these days.

Kitchen Cabinet Tile

Recently I did my first tile job by myself on my kitchen cabinet. I have been collecting tile off of Craig's list and i finally decided to recover the counters. here is the before and ...»
after shots. The prep work is sanding the surfaces to make the mastic stick. Lay out your pattern first and cut all tile and re fit to where they will be placed on the cabinet. Set the tile with mastic let dry for a few days. Continue by putting the grout in the cracks.Let stand for 20 minutes and wipe with a sponge, then with a soft towel to remove all the residue. After 48 hours seal with sealer. I still need to finish the wall behind the stove with tile.
