DIY Projects: Help building a flower bed

OK all you master gardeners, I need your expertise. First, let me say that I live in Texas and I am trying to build a bed in an area that has hard rocky soil. A friend of mine dug out ...»
the area to about 5 inches deep. I do not want to use the black landscaping paper. However, someone told me to use cardboard. They said to lay it on the existing rocky soil. Then to fill in with garden soil followed by a layer of several sheets of newspaper and then mulch on top. Does this sound good to you or do you have any other suggestions?

I go with raised beds, made from pallets. They are free, take just a little time to put ...»
together and I have wheels on some for rotational purposes. I'm doing that here at the cottage and I did it when I was on 10 acres. They just work out better for me. xo

Polly, I will be sure to post some photos of mine. I bought some gorgeous cushions at Kmart ...»
for 160.00 dollars and the material for the sofa cost me about 80.00. My son, is a carpenter, and he is gonna start working on it for me next week. He just became a Dad a few months ago, so it may take a couple of weeks for him to get it done, then I have to paint it! So excited to finally be getting a start on it! Photos to come!

Outdoor Living: waterfall/feature using chain link

I saw somewhere a water feature using a chain link gate. The water ran down the links slowly into a small pond. It was amazing! My son wants to make one for his first home. Has anyone seen or made one before?
