Painting: Repainting wood floors on three season porch

I in the process of updating my three season porch. Step one is the floor. It is painted wood (at least two layers from what I can see) which I'd like to repaint. I've decided to use a floor and patio paint but have a few questions.

1.How do I need to prepare the floor before painting? It is an indoor porch (no water issues). Do I need to sand the entire thing or just the areas that are peeling. (It is in pretty good shape) ...»

2. From what I understand about floor and patin paint I don't need to prime the floor or apply a polyurethane coating after. Any experience with this?

Deck Coating project with Cemetitious Paint Blend.

Coating fills in checked wood, once coated, the wood looks like composite material. No demolition required. Coats wood, metal or concrete. A sealer is recommended. Product is called Deck-it and is made in Canton, GA.

Staining your concrete patio to look like tile.

I was so pleased with the DIY project on our back patio! I stained the concrete to look like tile. We used painter's tape to create the look of grout lines, and we used a concrete stain from Lowe's to stain the concrete. For a step by step tutorial, just click on the link below.

  • My vinyl floor was 20 years old, I didn't have money for a new floor, so I painted it. 1
  • I liked it for a long time
  • However, after painting my kitchen counter tops and getting new appliances, I thought it was time to get rid of the blue. This is an in progress picture.
  • This is how it looks now with two shades of gray. Had I sealed it, changing it would have been a lot more work.

Painted Vinyl Floor update

I have had a lot of comments on my original post about how I painted my kitchen (vinyl) floor. It's been over 2 years and it's held up great, but I was ready for a change.

Porcelain Floor tile

This tile job is part of a complete Condo renovation. The previous owner had carpet in the whole place, except for the kitchen and bath. ...»

Those area will get the same floor tile as well. One way to help with large rooms and the over all "pattern is to install some room "breaks" In this first pic this is the transition from the bedroom into the hallway. Switching to an "on point" install It is not necessary for the grout line to line up perfectly, the mosaic also helps break up the space.

this same mosaic will be used in the kitchen backsplash to bring in some room to room continuity.

  • Here's a close-up of the newly tiled floor. It has really held up for several years, now.
  • When we purchased the house....the pantry had a faux brick floor.
  • We sanded the floor and applied a primer recommended by Sherwin Williams. 1
  • Then we laid the flooring in a diagonal pattern and trimmed the edges to fit the space and trimmed out with quarter round.
  • We added built-ins for storage and display!
