We know this will be quite a project throughout the entire house.

My question is can the flooring be treated to totally eliminate the urine odor?

Thank you!

Are you working with free weights or stationary equipment? ...»

Free weights could dent hardwoods or damage laminates if dropped. Same issue with tile. I recently had to replace a few tiles in a clients kitchen, where a weight was dropped.

Welcome to my Frugal Reno World! I've painted plain old plywood subfloors many times. First I ...»
sand, then I wipe, then vacuum. After that I Prime, using 2 coats. Now the fun begins! PAINT!! Cut in from the walls, then roll. Let dry then do a second application and let dry. Now you can decide if you want a pattern. If you do measure it out, tape it off and paint it. The patterns you can do are unlimited. Once that's done, then seal it. Wait 24 hours and add a second coat of sealer. Then wait at least 2 days before you walk on it. Just remember that latex paint must have a latex sealer and oil based paint must have an oil based sealer. As far as the Vinyl? I have never had much luck with painting over it. It's just easier (for me and I'm 56) to rip it up to get to the subfloor. Hope that helps a little! Can't wait for some pic's! xo

Our kitchen floor is getting worn and we would like to replace it with tile or even food.

The adjoining room has dark hardwood..how hard is it to tie tile with the wood? If we go with a wooden floor...do we have to have the colors match exactley?

$3 a sq foot is a pretty common rate for a full sand refinish. "Screen and recoat" can be down ...»
to 1/2 that. of course the layout poses a big "adjustment factor" stairs and hallways are more $$ than a big room due to the need to do a lot of hand work along the edges.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: How do I protect painted floors?

We recently painted over our worn hardwood floors in the house, because we could not effort to have them refinished. We used a good porch and patio floor paint from BEHR, two coats in a walnut brown. It looks very good, however, it is so sensitive to scratches, scuffs and dirt. You see every footprint! If I wipe it with a moist rag, you even see the wipe! (It says its not supposed to get washed until it cures after 4 weeks). Is there anything I can do to protect the floor and make it ...»
less sensitive? Cover It with polyurethane? Or do I need to remove the paint and actually refinish the floor?

Thank you KMS Woodworks for your video. I can see thatthis is a project that requires a lot of ...»
experience and patience in installingnew boards. I hesitate to take on such a precise method of replacing boardswithout leaving gaps, affecting other surrounding boards, and many of the othersteps. I wish that there was a KMS Woodworks in my area, as I would have themdo it, but my contacts with local flooring companies indicate that the job istoo small to bother with, they charge far too much to replace the eight boardsthat require attention ($25- $40 per board) or my sources are very limited. Iwill continue my search for professional assistance, but in the meantime, Ihave very little to lose by removing the center board of the group. Thank youonce again for this valuable assistance.
