Chalk Paint... I had to try it! The homemade version.

With all the buzz about chalk paint, I had to give it a try. We had a scabby old dresser that didn't owe us anything. It seemed like a low risk adventure! We made a backplate out of an ...»
old board and found a wooden decorative piece in an box of spare parts. The recipe we used was 5TBS. plaster of Paris mixed with 2TBS. water added to 2cups of paint. We got a bit aggressive with the sanding back, I may go lighter next time.

The knobs are end caps salvaged from some metal rods that we had in the basement.

DIY Painted French Bee Server From a Mismatched Buffet...

I was thrilled to do a project using graphics from the Graphics Fairy and have it featured on the DIY Graphics Fairy site. ...»

We started with a buffet that had been repaired over its lifetime and was not living up to its potential.

After sanding and painting with homemade chalk paint I hand painted a bee motif using a projector as a guide then we waxed it and married it to a beautiful mirror we had to create a server for our dining room. I would love to know what you think...To see the whole guest post and learn about the process... just click on the link!

  • Cedar bench that belonged to my Grandparents. 1

Painting: Paint an heirloom or leave it natural?

To paint or not to paint? This little cedar picnic bench belonged to my Grandparents. They have been gone since my very early 20's. It's not only vintage but to me it's a family treasure. I'm putting the bench on my porch pallet nook and I just can't decide if I want to paint it or leave it natural. I have already painted a rickity old wood chair that is a fav of mine red so I would probably paint the bench in yellow or blue. (I love bright colors!) Even if I don't paint it, I'll need ...»
to poly seal it because it will be out in the weather. What are your thoughts?

When you pass it on to a grandchild they may re-paint or not, but they will always remember that it is a family piece with history. Best of luck and be sure to share the results!
