Yardsale Finds... Just Hide Them Until they Fit In

Husband says he is going to ban me from yard sales but he loves what I end up with! Eventually things look good! But....for awhile...sometimes too long of a while....they take up precious ...»

Tanya, you just reminded me ...»
of the last rummage sale I went to. I was looking at these wrought iron frames that had a picture glued to it. I was considering getting them and making them into a chalk board. I decided not to, but told another person my idea and she bought both of them. Then I saw her looking at something else and I told her I would have spray painted the lids. She was like "I need you to show me how to do all this". lol (the funny thing is, I have no imagination or artistic ability....)

. I gave it a nice FRENCH CHOCOLAT graphic by transferring the image with carbon paper and Hand Painting on the graphic. I then distressed it and sealed it with Poly to protect it.

Head on over to see the full makeover.

  • I painted the casing on this vintage oak dresser with Reclaim paint in off-white.
  • the before picture. The mirror was missing so my hubby cut a piece of wood to replace it.
  • I used spray paint for the original hardware.
  • I created a chalkboard in place of the missing mirror. I used Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint, the brush on kind.

Jeanette asked about ASCP paint... how durable it is. Here's my take on chalk paint Jeanette: ...»
Although the wax is wonderful, it hasn't held up over time for me. I'm not sure why. So, when I use ASCP or homemade chalk paint, I seal it with Varathane Satin Polyurethane or a similar product. I've used Minwax Wipe-On Poly for darker pieces since it tends to yellow the lighter paint colors. I also use both of those products on stained surfaces as was used on these french provencal nightstand. The finish is durable and doesn't look dingy over time.

Painting: What paint to use on unfinished pine cabinet for rustic look?

I bought a pre-loved glass & pine china cabinet with a drawer base that had never had a finish and is paint ready, doesn't even need sanding. I want to do a somewhat rustic look in a cream color. I was thinking of a milk or chalk paint so it doesn't end up with a plastic look from todays acrylic latex paints. Can't find online from Home Depot or Michaels. (Anyone know of a store near Spokane, WA?)Where do I find these paints and how to use them? Thanks!

Unsanded grout sticks better but while it is dry it is toxic and can cause breathing problems. ...»
It is only toxic while floating in the air when dry so don't let a big cloud of it jump into the air where you can inhale it. I guess what I'm trying to say is just get it wet and settled so it's not floating around. :)
