I just found one in my attic! It looks very similar to the one posted. Inside there are 2 ...»
straight edges (metal), a scale ruler (all 72" long), a tool for cutting the paper and 2 brushes for smoothing the paper (?) after it is installed. It has lovely patina and age on wood! I am interested in selling.

Furniture: help with a chair

I recently picked up a couple thrift store wooden chairs for indoors. They are not the kind with padded seats. I want to pad the seats! I have no idea how.

Another option would be leather, set with padding and upholstery tacks. We have an old antique ...»
corner chair that was done that way.

I picked up some tacks on ebay for the padded areas of my lap desks.

Crafts: slip covers for rectangular ottoman and love seat

Has anyone done slipcovers for ottomans and loveseats? Is there a tutorial out there? How to measure to make one from scratch? I sew quite a bit; but slipcovers elude me.

decide if you want to use it indoors or out. When I first saw it I thought it would make an awsome bar caddy - you could even roll it outdoors to the patio should there be a need.

I could also see it being used as something in the garden like the sink, a potting table, or even as a plant stand with lots of colourful flowers and trailing plants.

It could also be used as a sideboard/server by a table - would love it on the patio for this purpose.

You will have to update us when you make up your mind.

figure out how to finish it. I think I am going to find some wood shutters to put on the outside and then paint the whole thing. Any ideas?

Furniture: Need make over ideas

I have a vanity table that was given to me as a wedding gift 15 years ago. It is not really good for anything except being at "catch all" and sits in my entry since the seat broke many years ago. It's really showing its age. Any ideas on how to give it a make over?

at Kmart 15 years ago for $100 (back when the sold real furniture not press board). even though it is real cherry wood it's not a very good quality and it has lots of nicks in it. so if I sold it I don't think I would get much. I don't want to sell because it was a wedding gift. I just want to freshen it up. thanks again.

Cleaning & Organization: Dining room table

My son used our dining room table to iron his pants. The stain has worsened over the years.

To remedy this I used Danish Oil, as suggested by the big box people. The results were ...»

disastrous. Can anyone recommend a product to remove this and get the table ready for refinishing.

Thank you

Thinner will not work much once the finish has cured. A citrus based stripper will, if you go ...»
that route it will be best to due the whole table top.

One trick I have used when working with the citrus stripper is to cover the wet stripper with some plastic wrap. This keeps it from drying out too quickly, as the stripper only works when it is wet. Table tops are about the easiest surface to do because they lack details and corners...

a plastic putty knife makes good scrapper for removing the stripper once it has done its work. smaller areas that may have been missed can be redone as needed the trick is to take your time and let the chemicals do the work.

Once all of the finish is removed you can then use thinner to clean it. allow a day for this to fully dry then you can proceed with the stain / or top coat.

Furniture: Minwax Paste finishing wax problem.

I am having a very hard time trying to put Minwax paste wax on my finished furniture without it looking greasy when Im finished. I followed the directions, I'm not sure what I'm doing ...»
wrong. I put on a light coat with a soft cloth, waited 20 minutes and buffed it. I even used my husbands orbital sander with the wax and buff attachments. I have watched tutorials and still cannot seem to get it right. I can see the circular marks from the wax when Its dry and polished. Any suggestions would be great! Thank You.

CeCe Caldwell makes a great wax for chalk painted furniture, I like it much better than Minwax ...»
and it's very eco-friendly. I typically wax my pieces and then let them sit overnight buffing the next day. Waxing furniture has a learning curve...my first piece was a disaster...don't give up.
