Gardening: I have a plant that has pink in the middle and yellow around sides.

These plants get a flower first then a large leaved tall plant, beautiful red colors running thru the middle if the green leaf. I starts out with a pink flower and yellow flowers around the sides then next to it it shuts up these tall leaves.

I bought mine as a Bishop's Hat. The next year I saw it as a fairy wing. Mine have dark ...»
reddish pink flowers. I did not know they also might have yellow flowers. i will have to keep my eye open. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This plant doesn't even die back under all of the snow. It is usually the first plant I see in the spring.. It sends up a couple of new stems each year and spreads slowly.

Gardening: Plant advice for sloping yard

Hi Everyone, I'm looking for suggestions on plantings for a new old garden bed. Here's the issue: we live in NW Illinois, zone 5, heavy clay, full sun, cold winters. Our backyard was ...»
basically a sloping meadow that now has grass and a planting bed I dug in two years ago. The water seems to run off the top of the meadow straight into the bed washing away the soil and mulch I've put around bushes & perennials. So far I've lost three weigelas, an elderberry and various grasses and coneflowers. Any suggestions on plants and/or ways to absorb the water (it gushes because the soil is such heavy clay it justs runs across the top). Oh, and if the water or weather doesn't kill the plant the deer &rabbits might munch it so keep that in mind.
