May Garden ~ Birdhouses & Flowers

In looking around the garden, I see a theme has developed. It's all about the birds and flowers. With approximately one hundred birdhouses, I suppose my collection is now nearing ...»
intervention status! Some are decorative and some are functional with clean-outs, but long ago I found out the birds are the ones who decide which is which. A bossy little house wren has commandeered the gazebo garden where she and her hubby have taken up residence in a blue bird house, chasing any other birds who dare to come near.

Every new flower is an awaiting surprise and , as I stroll our garden, bird song greets me. A red fox streaked across the front lawn this early morning, probably from the cat food on our porch. We've had lovely rains and everything is an intense shade of spring green.

How to Paint Vintage Metal Chairs

I have had these chairs for years. They were old when I got them! I have painted them several times, but the paint just chips right off. This time, I took all of the right steps to make that paint hold on tight!

  • An old ironing board that I recently painted white makes a great out door vignette on the patio.
  • I plan to drill a small hole in the ironing board top to slip the hanger wire through so it won't blow off.
  • I used a laundry basket shaped container for the Rose Star Calibrachoa.

Pressing Garden Matters

I recently painted an old wooden ironing board to use on my patio in a vignette. #Summerstyle

Yardsale Finds... Just Hide Them Until they Fit In

Husband says he is going to ban me from yard sales but he loves what I end up with! Eventually things look good! But....for awhile...sometimes too long of a while....they take up precious ...»
space!

So I only have to hide these from him till I discover their "full potential"! You see the potential don't you?

  • Using bright, fun colors wakes this porch up for summer!
  • Lovingly homemade items like the house numbers and old window art bring personality to your porch, especially in colors that pop!
  • This porch has the comfort element down pat! It also is a great example of using what you have (an old crate, painted jar vase and simple flowers).
  • This light and lovely porch has just the right amount of different elements to make it welcoming, but not overwhelming.

Spruce Up The Porch for Summertime!

There's nothing like a big dose of curb appeal for your home in the summertime - not to mention it's finally time for a little "porch sittin'!" Combine the two by sprucing up your porch ...»
for the season to come - since a porch should be about relaxing closer to nature, shouldn't it?

In order to have a porch that you love looking at AND relaxing in, we recommend you think about these three elements for your summer porch:

1. Keep the decor light - don't overload the porch with too many elements.

2. Bring in something bright - either in the form of flowers or by painting wood or metal a fun color.

3. Make it comfortable - maybe it goes without saying, but we've seen a lot of porches with uncomfortable-looking chairs that don't look very relaxing. Think cushions and pillows and imagine yourself lazily reading a book there on warm afternoons...now that's comfortable!

When creating a summer porch we love to come home to, we like to look for items in and around our home, at garage sales, or what we can make ourselves. Decorating for summer can be easy and plain fun without breaking your budget - and just about everyone appreciates that!
