Painting: I knew I should have taken a different route home.

But, I didn't. I drove right past the vintage shop and turned around and yes, I went in the shop. Lo and behold, this is what I walked out with. Never mind that I haven't even started on ...»
the vintage chaise or the wonderful crate! But tell me, would you have left this in the store? Now comes the question.....do I leave it as is or shall I paint? I'm thinking I'll use in the lanai. It's a pretty sturdy piece and vintage for sure. I would say 40s or 50s. I think it looks good as is, but wanted to get some opinions. Thanks.

  • This is the dresser. I have had it more than 20 years. I have a matching taller one, but I want to use that for something else.

Painting: Can I use wall paint on old, finished wooden furniture?

I have an old laquered dresser and an old wooden twin bed that I want to repaint for my son's 3rd birthday.

I bought some teal and lime paint from the mis-tint rack at Lowe's, intending on using it on the walls. I also wanted to use it on the furniture so it all matches, but I want to make sure that it is going to stick. I have read about sanding and priming it first, but I would love to know if there is any way I can get around this step without buying any other special paint? ...»

I will try to post a pic later when I get home of the bed. I dont have one right now.

There is no way to fix pressed wood. Water damage causes the fibers to swell and weakens the ...»
wood considerably. It will continue to get worse as it absorbs moisture from the air. If it's just the doors, I would definitely remove them. If the boxes have only small spots of damage (especially on the edges and non load bearing spots) you may be able to sand the damaged areas and seal them with wood glue or latex paint, but it will only be a cosmetic repair. The spots will be weaker than the rest of the wood, and if not properly sealed may continue to 'puff up' and rot.

Painting: What paint to use on unfinished pine cabinet for rustic look?

I bought a pre-loved glass & pine china cabinet with a drawer base that had never had a finish and is paint ready, doesn't even need sanding. I want to do a somewhat rustic look in a cream color. I was thinking of a milk or chalk paint so it doesn't end up with a plastic look from todays acrylic latex paints. Can't find online from Home Depot or Michaels. (Anyone know of a store near Spokane, WA?)Where do I find these paints and how to use them? Thanks!
