  • The beginning. Used books and leftover paint.
  • The stenciling. I didn't even worry about the words fitting perfectly.

Turquoise Clover Side Table

Fun and bright colors are great on small pieces of furniture to add a pop of color without overwhelming a space. A little paint can go a long way when it comes to updating a piece of ...»
furniture. A light turquoise brought this table out of its dull state and transformed it into a vintage modern piece.

  • My inspiration, Jackson Pollock's August Rhythm
  • I used paints that I already had in the garage. Black, white primer, pale blue and gray.
  • We simply splattered the pillow cases over a drop cloth.
  • I tried to dribble in spots to look as random as possible.
  • The finished pillow cases drying in the sun.
  • The best part of the bed. The new paint splattered pillows on the bed

Jackson Pollock Inspired Pillows

After a trip to New York, I came back with the idea to add some Jackson Pollock to my own house. I had a few khaki pillows from Target that seemed like the perfect place to add that ...»
element. We removed the stuffing and splattered our pillows with white, black, gray and blue in the driveway. These are all the colors from August Rhythm. After they dried, we re-inserted the stuffing.

This was almost too easy.

Use Hemp Oil & Milk Paint to Create a Chippy, Old Painted Finish

Looking for a safe and easy way to add old patina to a piece of furniture?

I love the look of chippy old furniture, but those authentic finishes can be hard to find. ...»

And quite often, they're not safe because the paint used contains lead.

That's why I love milk paint. It's safe and non-toxic, and it's so easy to rcreate a chippy, crusty painted finish that looks like it's hundreds of years old.

I used Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Kitchen Scale and Tricycle on this vintage buffet I found.

The secret to the chipped and peeling finish is hemp oil, which I sandwiched between the two layers of paint.

You can read more about the hemp oil resist technique on my blog.

  • Just a couple of days and a gallon of Behr Semi Transparent Stain in Pinto White and I got the soft white wash look I was going for!
  • Here's a glimpse of the railings before ...they gave the screen porch an unfinished feel...
  • After washing & letting the railings dry overnight, I used a small roller to apply the stain. Some sections of wood took the stain better than others-so I had to "eye-ball" I rolled & gently wiped off some of the stain till I liked it!
  • The process was easy but tedious because I really had to step back & evaluate small sections before moving on. Bindi said to tell you she was worn out by the whole project! xo

Giving Pressure Treated Wood a White Washed Look

yellowish tint and honestly made the porch feel unfinished. But a little help from Behr Semi Transparent Stain and I got the soft white washed look I wanted!
