I have a vintage iron chaise white with some rust. and a glass top table to match. Do I paint it? If so what color? I'm torn and need help with the decision. I'm open for all suggestions, it's in good shape with nice wheels

Thanks.

I would do what Sia suggested and wire brush the rust, seal and then leave it alone (nice and ...»
shabby but clean), you can always add bright fabric for cushions and pillows.

Painting: Vintage Chaise What Color to Paint

Should I paint this it's original white? I also have a glass top table to match. In great shape and the chaise has good wheels. Would it be best in a nice white enamel or a color? The ironwork on the arms and foot of the chaise are great.

I love all the brights. I have 2 Adirondack chairs, one is painted marigold and the other one ...»
is bright purple. Most of the outdoor furniture is white rattan and a few orphan iron pieces. The cushions are oranges, greens, yellows, even some pinks. Maybe I should stay with the white and use the cushions for color. I don't want to get too crazy with the color! Thanks for the great comments.

  • Cedar bench that belonged to my Grandparents. 1

Painting: Paint an heirloom or leave it natural?

To paint or not to paint? This little cedar picnic bench belonged to my Grandparents. They have been gone since my very early 20's. It's not only vintage but to me it's a family treasure. I'm putting the bench on my porch pallet nook and I just can't decide if I want to paint it or leave it natural. I have already painted a rickity old wood chair that is a fav of mine red so I would probably paint the bench in yellow or blue. (I love bright colors!) Even if I don't paint it, I'll need ...»
to poly seal it because it will be out in the weather. What are your thoughts?

The little bench will always remind you of your grandparents.....no matter what color it is. ...»
When you pass it on to a grandchild they may re-paint or not, but they will always remember that it is a family piece with history. Best of luck and be sure to share the results!

Painting: Mirrored Bedroom Wall

Hello, I have a wall in my bedroom that has really become quite an eyesore. The ENTIRE wall is mirrored!! It is 8ft high and approximately 11 ft wide. I have contemplated building shelves ...»
with open backs to let mirror show through. I have also thought of looking at frosting tutorials, and stencilling but STILL have not been truly inspired. Does anyone have any ideas, or finished projects perhaps that they can show me to possibly inpire me with this wall??? Removing it is a BIG pain, and can be quite messy (already went thru that on a wall downstairs living space). These mirrors WERE quite popular in the mid 90's and I never thought I would grow tired of them.....but I have! I also have them in TWO side by side bathrooms on first floor, LOL. The broken pieces and small shards of mirror STILL sit in a very large bucket on my deck because I refuse to throw away. I know I will have an artistic revelation later and want to use in a mural? I don't know, I just know they did cost a lot of money and are very difficult to remove without breaking. So I figure to use that wall to a greater potential, i just have to find a solution to work with it. Thank You Maria Salcedo

    Hello Maria! ...»

Your problem is not uncommon at all. It would help to know the style of the room/furnishings before giving you any ideas. I have had to do this for a client before and fabric was the answer. Could you let us know your style and what furniture is near that wall? Thanks!

Welcome to my Frugal Reno World! I've painted plain old plywood subfloors many times. First I ...»
sand, then I wipe, then vacuum. After that I Prime, using 2 coats. Now the fun begins! PAINT!! Cut in from the walls, then roll. Let dry then do a second application and let dry. Now you can decide if you want a pattern. If you do measure it out, tape it off and paint it. The patterns you can do are unlimited. Once that's done, then seal it. Wait 24 hours and add a second coat of sealer. Then wait at least 2 days before you walk on it. Just remember that latex paint must have a latex sealer and oil based paint must have an oil based sealer. As far as the Vinyl? I have never had much luck with painting over it. It's just easier (for me and I'm 56) to rip it up to get to the subfloor. Hope that helps a little! Can't wait for some pic's! xo
