I have a vintage iron chaise white with some rust. and a glass top table to match. Do I paint it? If so what color? I'm torn and need help with the decision. I'm open for all suggestions, it's in good shape with nice wheels

  • my pink & black bathroom. ugh, help!

Painting: Can I paint over bathroom tile and have it look good?

My 2 bathrooms are horrendous. One is black & pink the other has issues all its own.

I'd love to paint the pink & black bathroom as a cheaper option while I renovate the other. Is it going to look terrible or can it really be a project worth getting into??

Painting: Painting ceramic tile?

My entry way is a very smooth polished looking ceramic tile. I am wondering if there is a way to paint it instead of replace it to save money.

Leslie, Rustoleum Tile Transformation is one the few ways to DIY. I have been researching this ...»
same topic for several weeks as I am desperate to change the color of our recently tiled bathroom shower walls. There are professionals that say they can do this but it costs more than I can afford. The Rustoleum product isn't cheap but cheaper than the professionals. There is another product that is way cheaper but the reviews say it doesn't hold up to a lot of water use or heavy traffic. Good luck. If you find a great product, I would love to know.

I go through the same dilemma and opposing opinions in my house. I have an ecletic mix of ...»
contemporary, coastal and antiques decor... So, I go by a 'guide of sorts'...

If it's something from my husband's family, passed down...then we don't paint it...i.e. hall tree & a secretary similar to yours. :)

If it's mine, I struggle... I have an early 1900's mahogany vanity/desk that has the prettiest natural patina, I just can't put a paint brush to it.. Same thing for my antique radio from the 30's. Some times, the nostalgia and the pretty, natural patina just should not be touched...It does bring down the value, IF you were to ever sell the piece. You cannot undo it, once it's painted over the patina.

But, I have a c.1920-30's waterfall art deco vanity with mirror and I'm in the process of painting it!! It's going to be BEAUTIFUL and I'll love it even MORE!

Also, I have found cool antique & vintage items that were inexpensive and even had some minor damage...I painted them!! Like a Dillingham cedar chest... Painted antique white, distressed w/a sand dollar painted on the front... I looks BETTER than the dark stain it was previously stained with. Whatever you decide, is your business... I just shared how I gage some of the pieces I paint or not. :)

So what would be the steps here? Rip off wallpaper, scrub or sand off remaining gluey bits, some sort of primer or I don't know what, then paint? Am I missing something, or have I got it all wrong? Or does anyone have any tips in general?

Painting: Paint Colour Suggestions Needed!

there's this horrible Hardiboard siding covering the foundation that's in a grey with blue undertones (shudder!) I'm going to paint the Hardiboard, my front door and add shutters to the windows.

I'm thinking of Behr Japanese Maple for the front door (rusty red) and white for the shutters. Do I match the siding colour on the Hardiboard? or paint it one of the accent colours? Suggestions please!
