sure it's food grade the pool grade has many more silica in it and it can be hell on your mucus membranes, like lungs, eyes etc. For the food grade, put it in a sprinkle container, then sprinkle it on top of your carpets, under bird cages, along the tracks in the doors, windows etc. The ants/fleas/creepy crawly bugs go through it and the sharp edges of the diatoms get in the joints, get stuck on there and start cutting them exoskeleton and they dehydrate and die. You can feed this to your animals to rid them of parasites (stir in moist food or sprinkle small amount on dry food and stir in so when then sniff it they don't inhale the dust. On your carpet, just brush it in with a broom. If you have fleas and are trying to rid your place of them, vacuum first, this gets them to hatch if they are "waiting" for some vibration to come along to catch a ride. You can also add the diatomaceous earth to borax/boric acid and sprinkle it on your carpet then brush in. After a couple days vacuum it. Enough of it has worked into your carpet to take care of the fleas. You can also sprinkle a bit on your dog/cat backs and work into their fur. This takes care of the fleas on them. So anything like ants/fleas/spiders etc. are taken care of by the diatomaceous earth. (only caution is don't inhale the stuff or get it in your eyes. (I would remove dogs/cats while treating the room but once it's brushed into the carpet there isn't enough to have an issue. I love the idea of the other cleaners baking soda and corn starch/sugar and Tero (only if you don't have pets and children around) The club soda idea is awesome.
