Gardening: My pomegranate tree is being attacked by ants!

I love looking outside and seeing how well our pomegranate tree is dong this year. We've raised it over the past 6 years from a tiny sapling and now it's producing some beautiful fruit. ...»

But the other day my daughter came running inside screaming, "The patio is swarming with ants!" I went out to see what was going on and I see a ton of ants making a line across the lawn and headed directly for the pomegranate tree. They were climbing up the trunk and crawling all over the leaves! By nature, I'm the "live and let live" type when it comes to insects outdoors. So I left them alone, assuming they could do no harm. But this morning I noticed that many of the tree's leaves have shriveled up and I'm afraid that ants will kill the tree or at least ruin the fruit.

Does anyone have any information that can help me?

First of all, why are the ants suddenly attacking this tree?

Can they do real damage?

If so, what is the simplest way to get them to stop and keep them off of the tree?

I prefer a natural remedy to using chemicals, but if only chemicals will help I'm willing to go that route.

Gardening: Ant hills everywhere!

We recently had our backyard graded after building an addition to our house. We plan to put down sod in the next month (once we can get rid of some of the rocks and roots that are now ...»
showing up). In the last few weeks, there are ant hills appearing daily. Many ant hills. What is the best way to get rid of them at this stage? Would a liquid spray work better than a granular bait? I am going to use a barrier treatment around the house, but feel I need to do something on the hills themselves. All the rain we are having isn't helping matters, either.

For sitting on porches and decks, turn on a box fan or two...no bugs fly through the wind. We ...»
could not walk to our mailbox without getting bitten 20 times. For years we have put half and half lemon scented amonia and lemon scented dishwashing liquid in a sprayer attached to hose. Spray yard, bushes, ground cover, all plants including the ones in pots, and even some up on roof to run down gutters. When bubbles stop forming, refill sprayer. Spray once a week for 2-3 weeks then every other week and then once a month. They live and die within 200 feet of where they are born. Spray every inch of your yard to form a barrier from your neighbors.

  • Ants lying in Windex. 2

ANTS? Easy, Safe Solution!

An exterminator told my friend that when you begin to see ants, they are the scouts. Stop these and you won't have ants. My son discovered that if you spray them with Windex (or any other glass cleaner), they are exterminated. Keep after it for a while and you won't have ants. We have used this for years. 2 days ago our humming bird feeder leaked onto the concrete front porch...the liquid got down in the crack between brick and concrete so there was not way to flush it out. Ants ...»
appeared quickly, I sprayed them with Windex. Watched through the day and kept spraying them. Now ant free! Safe for kids, pets and environment! It is worth a try before you spend hundreds.

I would think that both the Windex and the Dawn works because you're washing away their path, ...»
the first ant will look for food then the rest will follow his path, if you wash it away continuously they will go somewhere else. I've heard the cornmeal works well, I need to get some out before I have a problem in the house.
