  • Before- the sink and toilet were on opposite walls. We rearranged the floorplan and put them both on the same wall.
  • After- We added a transom window over the doorway to make the room feel larger, and bring light into the hallway. We used subway tiles on the walls, a console sink, a concealed trapway skirted toilet, and marble-lookalike floor tile.
  • My favorite element is the extra-large, DIY medicine-cabinet we built next to the sink. And also the transom window we added over the doorway to make the room feel larger, and bring light into the hallway.

I agree with C & K, as we are ourselves are a design/build firm and this relationship works ...»
very well. Having actual construction experience is very beneficial when putting together the design and budget. I have also seen this system work when there is a good relationship between the homeowner, builder and architect. If everyone works together from the get-go, a much better end result is had.

I'm sorry Midlantic Cont., but I disagree with the bidding environment. When you start making it about price, a lot of things get screwed-up. People miss and leave things out of there bids. It's even less of an apples-to-apples comparison. Make it about the quality and lot the bottom line!

  • The plaster slab
This technique can be applied to any shape or design that you,
  • To cast a plaster slab we use the same techniques as when we cast a ceiling rose.
  • The timber bearers are secured into place
Timber bearers for a plain faced cast should be at least 30mm x 30mm
These will be the strike offs , the finished levels for the plaster slab
Using the pre cut and pre greased timber laths and a builders' square check for accuracy prior to screwing to the bench

  • The space was originally 2 separate rooms-a tiny toilet, shower, single sink and a vanity area. We removed the wall and 2 closets to make one open space. 3
  • Because this was a total DIY project, we were able to complete a much higher end looking bathroom for $7,000. 1
  • These mirrors (from Lowes) and sconces (from Home Depot) were both very affordable options and I love the look they create in the bathroom. 2

DIY Master Bathroom

We completely renovated a 1980's outdated master bathroom (think metallic wallpaper) and created a tranquil space to escape my 3 boys! The post on my blog contains many of our sources.
