Thank you all very much. It was a job. The toilet was on the other side of wall. The old sink ...»
was where the toilet is now.It just hung on the wall. Old sink couldn't even get hot and cold water at same time. Bathtub was on the wall where toilet is now also..Major re-do.The windows are completely new also. Had one in there before but it was in different location..I'll try to find a before bath photo.

Renter's Backsplash

I'am a RENTER and as a renter you are limited to your choices and Home Decor. I rent this townhouse and the owner came in and put in new counter tops and it left the kitchen half new & ...»
half old and I needed a pop of color. So I went online for a solution and I found several DIY for renter's backsplash. Saw the pictures and read the instructions and set off to find the following supplies: Table Placemats, and way to hold them in place, which I chose doublesided tape so it would be easy to remove without damaging the walls and a pair scissors. Since my kitchen is a small area I purchased 10 Benson Mills Bamboo Placement for a $1.00 each from Big Lots(I only used 8). Proceeded to apply double sided tape to placemats (make sure walls are clean) and put the mats in place on the wall. Here is my finished product. There was 1 inch gap between the cabinets. So I filled in the space with a cut down(cut to fit) version of the placemat. So far its working......

The New Toilet Saga

Replacing a toilet in an old home can be accomplished by yourself, but it is NOT easy due to the "rough in". A plumber may be necessary. Read our saga with our tips at the blog. ...»

Toilets only come in 12 inch and 10 inch standard rough ins.

We had 11.25 inch rough in. However....

(Cost is based on toilet plus plumber.)

  • Dictionary page & chalkboard walls give the entryway a vintage look for about $20.

Book Page Entryway Walls

Our entryway had cheap, old, ugly paneling which made for a unpleasant entry into the house. Rather than tear it out and replace it, I covered the walls with vintage dictionary pages. See the before, during and after in the blog post.

Remodeling: Cobb county residentual permits and inspections

I purchased a home with an unfinished basement. It has framing/installation/some electrical and roughed in plumbing. So I spoke with an Licensed electrician about wiring it out to code ...»
and him pulling a permit. He advised me if he pulled the permit it would have to be for the full job not just electric so it would be better if I pulled an home owners inspection permit because I'm doing the basement in stages. I called and requested this and I was told it was 71.50 a sq ft and 4.50 per something else. Well I have 1200 Sqt so just adding that together that tells me that can't be right as that is about 85,000 bucks. I question why it would be so much to to finish my basement and was told thats the system and they hung up on me. I called back and got someone else and rephased the question still to get told they needed to know the full amount I was going to spend to finish the basement.

Anyone have any insight on this?

Permits! UGH! But keep in mind that you do not just get a permit--you have to get it signed ...»
off on, or you may run into trouble down the road trying to sell the house. And if you put in something that is not legal, i.e., a staircase to steep and not to code, that will haunt you! It is best to play by the rules. But you can use some reclaimed materials that can keep your cost down. You certainly do not want to put in extra fancy stuff and then not expect your assessment to go way up! TIP: For all DIY projects, know that we have "Habitat for the Humanities Resell" stores in the Atlanta area. Worth checking them out!

  • The space was originally 2 separate rooms-a tiny toilet, shower, single sink and a vanity area. We removed the wall and 2 closets to make one open space. 3
  • Because this was a total DIY project, we were able to complete a much higher end looking bathroom for $7,000. 1
  • These mirrors (from Lowes) and sconces (from Home Depot) were both very affordable options and I love the look they create in the bathroom. 2
