I've removed 2 ceilings, so far. Yes to all of the above. But I would strongly suggest using ...»
a plastic putty knife. It's too easy to gouge the sheetrock with a metal one. It's so darned easy to remove the texture. Make sure to sand the tapings before you paint. I primed and then 2 coats of paint. Afterwards, I painted on a coat of opalescence and kind of made swirls. It masks the roughness of the unplastered ceiling. And it's Purdy.

  • Before- the sink and toilet were on opposite walls. We rearranged the floorplan and put them both on the same wall.
  • After- We added a transom window over the doorway to make the room feel larger, and bring light into the hallway. We used subway tiles on the walls, a console sink, a concealed trapway skirted toilet, and marble-lookalike floor tile.
  • My favorite element is the extra-large, DIY medicine-cabinet we built next to the sink. And also the transom window we added over the doorway to make the room feel larger, and bring light into the hallway.

very well. Having actual construction experience is very beneficial when putting together the design and budget. I have also seen this system work when there is a good relationship between the homeowner, builder and architect. If everyone works together from the get-go, a much better end result is had.

I'm sorry Midlantic Cont., but I disagree with the bidding environment. When you start making it about price, a lot of things get screwed-up. People miss and leave things out of there bids. It's even less of an apples-to-apples comparison. Make it about the quality and lot the bottom line!
