Sometimes I think I'd like to have a small overhang over my back doors

onto the deck. This would be useful if my dogs happen to be outside when it starts raining and I haven't noticed, so they're stuck outside. You'd think they'd get under the table, but they don't. They just stand at the door, getting wetter and wetter until I come let them inside. But my yard is very shady and inside this door is one of the brightest places in my house, so I don't want to obscure whatever sun might come into the kitchen with an overhang. I've seen that wavy clear ...»
plastic-looking stuff over some decks, but I think it's quite ugly so don't want to use it. Is there some kind of clear material I could use as a tiny roof for an overhang so I'll still get sunlight into the room? Here's where it would need to go.

    Louise, ...»

Of course you could have a contractor come over and build you a portico which would be very nice but I'm thinking probably more than you are looking to spend. I'll just toss this out here for you, we could build a panel with a 1" X 1" frame and the clear glazing to any desired size, let's say 3' X 6' and you could simply attach it under your eave but you'd need to figure out the framework to support it. This would run you about $100.00 We build hundreds of these every year for people to enclose their porches and patios and you'd simply have one of these panels placed over the door for some weather protection. Just thought I'd toss this out there for you as an option. Eugene

STAINED GLASS so easy

Do you absolutely love Stained Glass? It's very expensive and permanent. What happens if you grow tired of it? Here's a splendid way to bring Stained Glass into your home by using ...»
colored tissue paper and liquid fabric starch. Then when your decor taste changes, simply wash it off.

This how I did it and it's AS EASY AS 1 ~ 2 ~ 3

1. Determine what Stained Glass image you want; something as simple as geometric shapes or more complexed, like flowers, scenery, etc.

2. Cut shapes or rip up bits of tissue paper. The pieces will fit into your design like mosaic tiles. (I used black colored tissue as the 'lead' to get the Stained Glass look)

3. Brush on the liquid starch to small sections of the window at a time. Place the tissue paper directly on the wet window and gently smooth out. Overlapping creates nice effects and mistakes makes interesting design!

Fix a Sagging Door in 5 Minutes Flat

We had a sagging interior door that was driving us crazy. We had to lift the door knob to get it to latch. We were able to fix it in no time with some cardboard.

  • Bathroom window valance we created to add softness and finished look for the bathroom. We used three fabrics and trim. The fabric is inexpensive but workmanship is great. The valance design was drawn out to scale.

Before - After Bathroom Window Treatment Valance

Custom window treatments with patterned fabric are selected to make the bathroom look softer and not so formal. The window valance works against the contrast wall.

Handcrafted Chippendale Door

A new addition to our home is a Chippendale door for our porch, handcrafted by my husband. He copied the design on our front door so the two would match. We are loving the curb appeal this new door gives our home.

Go GREEN In Your Kitchen! (Color Not Required)

The kitchen alone is responsible for nearly half of your home's energy consumption! Imagine if your kitchen renovation applied some easy and beautiful energy efficient principles, what ...»
could that do for your entire home?

-Windows are an excellent place to start creating a 'green' kitchen. Enlarging windows can brighten a room without increasing your ecological footprint! Operable windows can be used in lieu of a vent, and more efficient windows will dramatically help your energy bills!

-Cabinetry made from sustainable woods with low VOC finishes is another way to create a healthy and eco-friendly kitchen.

-Appliances use most of your kitchen's resources, so selecting energy-star appliances is a clear advantage when remodeling. But did you know Sub-Zero, Thermador, Viking and other manufacturers offer appliances that are actually MORE efficient than energy-star appliances? Induction cooktops are another example of a new kind of appliance that uses significantly less energy than traditional cooktops!
