  • Only use actual metal cans. The cardboard ones will not hold up in the weather.
  • Remove the bottom with a can opener and take off the label.
  • Paint your can up and seal with a water proof sealant.
  • Cut the top of the can in half and hot glue each half onto each of the ends of the can.
  • Add two tiny nail holes to the top. String through twine and tie in a knot.
  • Fill with food, hang in a tree, and watch the birdies come to eat.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Musty smell from broken water line

vinegar wash...when dry sprinkle with dry baking soda...these are the only natural solutions I ...»
can come up with. You need to use a shop vac and get as much water out of the carpet....if you end up needing to remove the carpet use 'Kilz' to paint all the surfaces before repainting or re-

    carpeting.

How to Make a Birdbath

I wanted to make a simple birdbath so I had the idea of using PVC piping. Then I bought a white plastic tray at Joann Fabrics and glued that to the top of the PVC pipe. Wala! Birdbath!!

  • 3 different sized Terracotta pots
  • Base coat the pots, inside & out, with white acrylic paint to ensure that the paint color used is true
  • 2 coats of paint, inside & out, on each pot
  • Spray with 2 light coats of Krylon clear coat so that the 'chime' can be used outdoors.
  • Using Kwik Seal Clear Caulk to 'glue' on rhinestone stars makes them hold up to summer showers

  • Here is my tea pot fountain in full bloom. 7
  • We drilled a a hole in the tea pot and then threaded it. We attached flanges to a solid concrete block to support both the tea pot and the gold pan. The block is heavy enough to support the weight of the unit underwater. 5
  • We then built a support for the gold pan and dropped the unit into the whiskey barrel. We added a fountain pump and inserted tubing up through the tee on the bottom of the pipe that supports the tea pot and into the tea pot. 1
  • Add water and your done! The unit is free standing so it can be leveled and no holes are drilled in the whiskey barrel. I put it all away every winter and take it out and set it up in the spring. 1
  • Last year we poured a concrete base that the whiskey barrel sits on so it doesn't sink into the dirt. 1

I want to make a water fountain! Inspiration and a plea for...help?

When I was down south, I spotted this wine bottle water fountain. I took a quick picture, asked the owner where he found it, when he proudly replied, "I made it!" ...»

Well, I thought his idea was genius! And while wine bottles aren't quite my thing, rusty junk is.

So I'm on the lookout for water feature material. And for added inspiration, here are a few of my favourite water features I found right on HomeTalk!

And I'd LOVE your advice. Do you have any tips that could help with a newbie water feature maker such as I? Any cool kits to try?
