French Impressions Part II - the Bed Transformed

We have had our bedroom suite for years. It was time to make a change and I was inspired by photos found in a Betty Lou Phillips book. This is part two. I started with the dresser and then painted the bed.

Anthurium - Finally a Flowering Indoor Plant That Loves Low Light!

I don't grow many indoor plants. I used to when I lived in Maine, but now that I live in a more temperate climate, I stick to flowers and vegetables outside.

But every once in a while, when I got to the garden center, I find (and bring home) an indoor plant. Such was the case with this pretty Anthurium.

Much to my delight, anthuriums love low light! They have a leaf like red flower and stalk that rises above the plant and I have it in a north Facing window and ...»

  • We covered all the horizontal surfaces on our deck, and it required 4, 4-gallon buckets. 3
  • You can back-brush the second coat for a smoother texture.
  • The deck almost looks like composite now. Rust-Oleum has lots of different colors to choose from, and we selected "Saddle".

deck with no railings and it was looking pretty shabby. Last summer I renter a floor sander and sanded the whole deck then used a stain/waterproofer product. This summer it looks just as bad as before the sanding. The stain is faded in places and I put two coats! I think this product is my next thing to try.

Painting: Dark waxes for chalk paint

Does anyone know where you can purchase dark wax to use with chalk paint? I am on a budget and I need a wax that is not over the moon expensive, but will still perform very well. Thank you

Use Your Old Coffee Grounds in the Garden.

Are you a big coffee drinker? If you are, you will have used coffee grounds. Don't throw them away...used them in the garden.

There are many ways to use them. Camellias, hydrangeas, and roses are all nitrogen loving plants so the coffee grounds help.

The grounds are also a great deterrent for slugs and snails around hostas and other plants that the pests love.

Vintage Vanity Bench Makeover

I picked up this vintage vanity bench at a yard sale last year. I painted it with Cece Caldwell's Santa Fe Turquoise and covered the seat with chenille from a pillow sham. I love the bright color!
