About Me:

I'm a 60 year old woman who didn't know she was getting old. My brain says I am not. I designed and built my own home over about a 20 year period of time.At 31 years old I became a single mom with two kids a couple of years into the house project. I learned how to do just about everything that involves building a house, from framing, roofing, sheetrock mudding, painting, electrical, some plumbing, tile work, ...you get the picture. My landscaping design work could use some help LOL if it's flower beds one is thinking about. I turned my whole front yard into a produce garden and small orchard. I've got some animals a great dog, cat and some chickens, ducks and one turkey, and the kids are grown and gone. Hobbies,I enjoy photography and art and cross pollenating plants. So this is a quick short about me.

Favorite area of home improvement:

New roof, finish front flower beds, really the list is endless if you live in a place as long as I have been here!

get rid of them? They are grown all into the crepe myrtles and they hurt! We have ripped up several pairs of gloves trying to clip them back. We have literally lost 15 feet of yard around the whole perimeter to this yucky stuff.

figured because the plants could not perform photosynthesis the root systems died. It can be a bit time consumming, but I have found it to be an effective method of being rid of invasive plants.

Shower Door Swing

I am trying to hang a shower door, and it says that hinges should be where the spray from the shower head goes. Is this true? For my project, I can't hang the door that way because it ...»
makes more sense going in and out hanging the door with the handle where the spray goes. Let me know which way is recommended and reasons. Thanks.

Hi Debbie, I don't know if you were looking for comments on your post but you might want to ...»
reconsider the pot size. Transplanting from a 4" pot to a 5 gallon pot your tree will spend most of it's time building a root system without much growth above ground. I like to transplant up one or two pot sizes to encourage root and top growth. It also gives you the opportunity to prune as it grows. Are you planning on planting it outdoors at some point? Good luck with your little plant. Here's hoping she grows into a productive tree for many years to come. Bay leaf is so good to cook with. Happy New Year

Built a fence this summer, finally got around a couple of weeks ago to getting the driveway ...»
gate built and hung. Yesterday the entry gate got made and tomorrow it gets hung. Today's chore was transplanting a whole lot of firepoker plants along the fence and out of what is going to be the driveway. I've got a big stump I need to get rid of. Was thinking about burning it out, but I may just rent a stump grinder. I'd like to be done with this resolution before New Year! =^)
