Crusty White Stuff on Pots

You may notice a dried white powder on the outside of your clay pots. This is called efflorescence. ...»

This powdery material is the remains of fertilizer or minerals in the potting soil inside the pot. Water wicks through the clay pot wall and the minerals dissolved in it dry on the outer surface.

The white stuff is composed of calcium, magnesium, sulphate, nitrate, phosphate and ammonium salts.

Simply soak the pot for an hour in a bucket of water and scrub off the white powder.

  • I am new in home talk, just open my account earlier today and I find this web site very cool. Just wanted to share my way of doing my own transition to save money. This is between carpet and tile. I bought 1 pcs of wood for 4 dollar, nail it down on the floor, stain it then put grouts on it. It really works.. 3

  • Lighted solar posts for driveway 1

Updating driveway

The state of NC is busy ripping up roads and front yards due to yet another highway expansion. The first 4 feet of our yard now belongs to the state and they are busy ripping out trees, ...»
bushes, flowers, etc.. This naturally included the entrance to our driveway. We have been busy replanting flower beds and trying to figure out what to do. While visiting an antique store, we saw some interesting ideas with posts. As our home is just a plain American Farm House, we had to think plain and simple. Hubby set wooden posts this morning in concrete. This afternoon he put the vinyl sleeves on and added the solar lights. We found the solar lights for only $25.00 each. With the lights, wooden posts, vinyl sleeves and Quik-Krete we have about $100.00 in this project and we are so happy with it.
