About Me:

Hey there! I'm Beth. I love home decorating, interior designing, and DIYing on the cheap. I also like to get my hands dirty in my flowerbeds and snap pretty photos along the way. I'm a master of wasting time on the internet. I have a degree in Interior Design Merchandising from the University of Montevallo. For fourteen years I've worked in the commercial modular building industry where I handle the design and drafting of modular buildings and office furniture. For fun I enjoy DIYing and decorating my own home. My husband and I make a good creative team and together we have finished a lot of home projects. To see the fun stuff we've done check out my blog at www.unskinnyboppy.com.

  • The space was originally 2 separate rooms-a tiny toilet, shower, single sink and a vanity area. We removed the wall and 2 closets to make one open space. 3
  • Because this was a total DIY project, we were able to complete a much higher end looking bathroom for $7,000. 1
  • These mirrors (from Lowes) and sconces (from Home Depot) were both very affordable options and I love the look they create in the bathroom. 2
  • The pedestal tub is my favorite addition to the space.

DIY Master Bathroom

We completely renovated a 1980's outdated master bathroom (think metallic wallpaper) and created a tranquil space to escape my 3 boys! The post on my blog contains many of our sources.

Side Table Makeover - Cottage Chic

This table was headed for the dumpster when I rescued it!

Dark, dumpy and discarded to light, white, and beachy.

Unexpected Beauties: Galvanized Tubs and a Pool Pump turned Planter

There are few things in this world I enjoy more than gardening and breathing new life into things that most people would consider old junk bound for the landfill. When I saw a stacked ...»
galvanized tub planter on Pinterest, I knew I had to make one of my own. We have old galvanized tubs sitting around our house that used to serve as dog bowls. I dragged them out of storage and drilled some drainage holes in them, then I used an old rusty piece of rebar to anchor them all together. After adding a little garden soil and some hosta, creeping jenny and purple moon torenia, I had myself a gorgeous piece of garden art. The previous owners of our house had replaced the pool pump and cut the sand filter in half to use as planters. I love that he was a repurposer, too! I got my husband to dig a shallow hole, and we buried the top half of the pool pump halfway in the ground but tipped at an angle to show off the flowers better. Filled with coleus and hosta, it makes the perfect end cap for my shady driveway border. Great for adding some #SummerStyle to my house!

Bring some shade to your porch with cheap canvas drop cloths

Since we had about 52 hours of Springtime and then went straight to summer heat here in Alabama, how about a drop cloth curtain tutorial to block the sun and bring some shade to your back ...»
porch? This screened in porch faced due west, so the sun was unbearable in the late afternoon. We used copper pipe for curtain rods as a unique touch. Admittedly, the price of copper has gone up since 2009 when this project was completed, so you might use regular curtain rods or even spray painted PVC pipe instead of copper, but it gives it a unique look. We added rope lighting around the top for night time ambiance.

Tools needed for this job:

cheap 9x15 canvas paint drop cloths

a few packages of Levelor curtain ring clips

lengths of copper pipe found in the plumbing section of Lowes

copper endcaps, curved 90 degree and straight connectors to give the pipe a finished end

curtain rod hangers

screws

rope lighting

tassels or lengths of rope for tiebacks

Screw the curtain rod hangers at a length so the curtains will barely skim the floor when pulled back. Assemble the copper pipe and cut down to size if needed using a tube cutter if you have one, or a hacksaw/ table saw. If you make curved curtains that wrap around your porch you can use 90 degree connectors for a continuous length of pipe. Or just use two straight runs and make it easy. Hang the dropcloths using the curtain clips, then tie back with tassels.

You can see the full tutorial at my blog: http://unskinnyboppy.com/2009/06/drop-cloth-...
