Revamp that large bathroom mirror

I added shelves and some trim to dress up the large bathroom mirror.

*Options I considered for this project: ...»

We considered replacing the mirror altogether, but decided to go the less expensive route first and see how long it would buy us.

*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:

I didn't know how well the mirror was attached to the wall. I also didn't know how well my adhesive would adhere to the mirror and trim.

* Cost Comments:

1"x4" MDF (32 ft) - $20

1/2 birch plywd - $15

Trim (40 ft) - $20

Crown (3 ft) - $4.50

Lights - $60

*My motivation to do this project:

The mirror was large and an eye sore. We wanted something a little nicer.

*Project Steps:

The first step was to replace the single light fixture with matching twin ones. I ran the wiring, secured the boxes and mounted the new lights. This was required due to the shelving unit. I then measured out the surface and determined the size of the shelving unit. Then I purchased the materials and started designing as I cut. The shelving unit was assembled and attached first. It was ~2 inches higher than the mirror and secured to a stud to help support the mirror against the wall. The trim and molding was measured, cut and secured using GOOP adhesive and tape to hold in place until it was dry.

Advice:

Don't assume the mirror is attached to the wall well enough to hold the additional weight. Make sure it is supported fully.

Do measure twice and cut once.

Materials:

Wood, MDF, Trim - $0.00

Light fixtures - $0.00

  • This shower clearly show's how not to re do your shower. The seat 24" in height and 12" in depth was not trimmed properly and the grout cracked. The best part was the gap in the lower left side of the seat that can never be cleaned 1
  • Once the old tile was removed we found standing water under the seat and a nice mold mess. This was truly a mess. Omg this was a mess.
  • This is one side of the vanities and the other side is the same. big square tub.
  • This was the best part the Handyman really suggested to put this step in, the room was only 36" wide and the step was just about 12" so you needed to turn sideways to go around. window replacement not provided by our company

fixing a prior remodel

We first need to fix all of the thing the prior contractor had done. The shower had standing water and mold in it under the seat. the over sized step was to big for the room and not ...»
needed. The goal was to change the direction of the tile to lengthen the room, get rid of the step, round the tub front to add the appearance that the room is larger then it really is. And fix the shower, clean up the standing water, added Niches and create a better flow of water around the drain. The best part is we were able to get two small granite with a unique flow to it and use them for the vanity's. The few things to changes to the layout certainly gave us the room we were looking for and adding a warm tone on the walls and new lighting all came to together for a really nice bathroom.

Victorian Major Renovation-A 1890s Dilapidated House Turned into A Cozy Modern Home with Historic Charm

http://heirloomdesignbuild.com/current-proje...

1) The existing home had absolutely no insulation. To save energy costs and overall power ...»

consumption:

- removed all of the plaster in the home and sealed the entire exterior to prevent air leakage and drafts

- installed moisture-barriers and insulation in the crawl space

- installed vapor barriers and insulation on the first floor

- insulated all walls, ceilings, and attic

2) Replaced most of the windows with energy-efficient models that still matched the original style

3) Installed high-efficiency plumbing fixtures to reduce water waste

4) Painted with low-VOC products to reduce harmful volatile organic compounds which can cause severe health risks

5) Installed high efficiency HVAC units to reduce long-term energy consumption and utility costs

6) Per the new energy code, we implemented the option of sealing and insulating the crawl space beneath the house and installing a dehumidification system to condition the crawl space. This conditioned crawl space provides for healthier indoor air quality, reduces overall energy costs, and protects the home and stored belongings from moisture damage.

Heirloom Design Build took a dilapidated 1890s Victorian house and restored it in a way that preserved its historic charm while turning it into a cozy home for a 21st century family.

We added a gorgeous, gated deck, a mulched dog run on the side, and even a detached studio in the back yard.

Now, the home provides everything this growing family needs to thrive in the beautiful and highly accessible neighborhood of Candler Park. The finished product blends historic charm with modern comfort.

Walls & Ceilings: Can I make an island with an opening in a load bearing wall?

I have a relatively small kitchen........I think it is about 12x14. There is no natural light and I hate that. I want to add an island and place something like this facing out to the LR. The LR wall is loadbearing. Is this possible?
