About Me:

I am a wife, a mom of 4 boys, a DIYer and smart-alleck. I love thrift store finds but am picky about brands of toilet paper. I am afraid of spiders, snakes, heights, and pressurized rolls of Pillsbury biscuits. On my blog you'll find lots of home projects, crafts, cooking and funny stories. If Erma Bombeck and MacGyver had a love child, that child might have turned out a little bit like me.

Halloween Decor - Black & White Pumpkin Topiaries

I am more of an eerie Halloween person than a scary one, so a simple black, white and orange color scheme (with ravens, of course) greet my guests.

The best way to store fresh fruits and veggies.

I don't know if this is so much "home" related as it is garden related. Gorgeous spring and early summer produce is starting to show up in my grocery store, and I know many of us are starting our gardens so, I wanted to share this list of the best way to store fresh fruits and veggies. http://www.thevspotblog.com/2012/01/how-to-s... There's a free printable too.

  • Prime, paint then blend. Seriously, couldn't be any easier.

  • So easy to do this! You don't even need elbow grease! http://www.thevspotblog.com/2011/07/cleaning-stove-burners-grates-best.html
  • Ick! (I cook a lot... don't you judge me.) ;)
  • Take the disgusting, yucky burner and seal it up in a big Ziploc-type bag with about 1/4 cup of ammonia and let it sit overnight.
  • The same burner, 12 hours and no scrubbing later. Ammonia fumes have worked their magic. It's the fumes that dissolve the grease, not the ammonia itself.

An easy spring cleaning tip for one of the worst jobs in the house!

My stove burners get absolutely disgusting. Sealing them up with a tiny bit of pure ammonia makes it possible to just wipe clean with a sponge. #SpringCleaning http://www.thevspotblog.com/2011/07/cleaning...

  • Burlap and a fresh coat of paint made this bookcase allllll better! http://www.thevspotblog.com/2013/05/beachy-bookcase-before-and-after-diy.html
  • Caulked, spackled, sanded and ready to paint.
  • After it was painted, I put the bookcase down flat to attach the burlap. Much easier. I used Mod Podge to adhere the fabric.

  • Glass etching cream is inexpensive and fun. Putting stickers on the bottles or using stencils will etch anything you want onto the bottle.
  • I found quotations about water, or the word "water" in different languages, and I was able to etch them just using contact paper, stencils and the glass etching cream.
