Home Maintenance & Repairs: Opening a stuck door in an old house

The house I'm moving into has a "stuck" front door that hasn't been opened in over 60 yrs. The door "wiggles" so the problem seems to be in the old-fashioned door knob/locking mechanism. ...»
The door has a large glass window in it as well. Should I find someone to take the door off it's hinges without breaking the glass in the door? This part of the house was"updated" in 1901; I expect the door was either updated or replaced at that time. The original part of the house was built in 1826...Thank you for your comments as I am "stuck" on this! : )

I have seen where people nail or screw doors closed, so people can't can't get in.

Anyone who is trying to do what your doing in place at home has a very high failure rate ...»
because you are basically trying to something that is so nasty and stinky, not to mention hard work, you could compare it to rebuilding a car transmission on your kitchen table.

Our front door is currently solid wood and I would like to replace it with a fiberglass door with decorative glass. I have found a door that is just the slab and not prehung. Is this ...»
installation possible as I've learned that fiberglass doors are 35 7/8" wide as opposed to our current wood door that is exactle 36"?

Thanks for your help,
