  • Before, 1950's disfunctional cabinets all on one wall. No ventilation and old uninsulated windows and walls. 9
  • exposed ductwork from previous reno and stove placed in a niche in the wall from an old doorway. 3
  • Some of the details include copper sinks and taps, granite countertops with a 'leather' finish and natural tin ceiling. Also, no upper cabinets, backsplash is 'v' groove paneling and countertops are 30" deep on this wall. 12
  • Pantry cabinets finished to look like refinished 'old' cupboard. These are the only upper cabinets in the kitchen. 2
  • Natural tin ceiling and a new light fixture that I loved the style of but not the color (brass) so I painted it to match the cabinet hardware. 2
  • Added a 'french' patio door where the window was, put in bulkheads for new duct work to make a tray ceiling for the painted tin and opened up the wall from the kitchen another 2 feet for better flow between the two rooms. 3
  • Natural maple engineered floors over cement with in floor water heating, copper farmhouse sink and furniture details on the cabinet kicks. 6

Kitchen renovation in 1918 farmhouse

A few before and after photos of our long awaited reno. We did the design and most of the finish work - but used a great local cabinet company - Woodecor - for the cupboards

Thank you Bart, we have been living with this kitchen for over a year now and can attest to ...»
the practicality. It works so great and feels so cozy, we spend more time in this room than any other room in our house-besides the bedroom;)

Kathryn, all of the lower cabinets are drawers except for the corners which have lazy susans ...»
in them, and there is a large pantry cabinet as well. I just didn't want any cabinets over my counters

Jamie, that is a good idea about painting the kick black (now I'm sorry I didn't think of it) ...»
however, I do think the curves are reflected in the cup pulls and the lighting. I like the curves, they may seem overstated because of the camera angle. The cat is pretty curvy too and she spends alot of time in here!

  • Sink and closet to store my central vac and mops tucked in under the stairs where and open closet was
  • Counter top for folding and rack above for storing laundry baskets and hanging clothes to dry on hangers - made from stainless steel by my husband.
  • Extra fridge and pull out laundry hamper and lots more storage.
  • "curtain" is vintage linen tea towel
  • Painting by our teenage daughter
  • Door to the kitchen
  • Before, the washer and dryer are now where the bathtub was.
  • Closet where sink is now.
  • The wall that was removed between the two small rooms, looking through the doorway that we kept.
  • This shelf is held in place with cabinet latches so it can be removed to turn off the water if necessary. It also hides the taps nicely. 2

We gutted a small bathroom and entry way to make room for a laundry off the kitchen.

Lorena, those were my favorite parts too! I tried to imitate the 'look' of the old windows ...»
with the new, I reused the light in the new dining room and the old window frames are mounted on the wall as decoration in the dining room. The floor was laminate and I plan to reinstall it else where in the house.

Our light and bright before and after bathroom

Our bathroom needed an update. we took down old dingy wall tiles and added a board and batten look, with a retro inspired floor and bright pops of color. More info and pictures at http://www.jenniferrizzo.com
