Getting your plants through a frost

Here are some pointers for helping see your plants through a cold snap. (In most of the country you can tuck these pointers away, but this is the time of year we worry about such things ...»
in Florida.)

1. Avoid pruning or fertilizing late in the season to minimize the chance tender new growth will be damaged by cold.

2. Water well before the threat of a frost. According to Cornell University, moist soil can hold four times more heat thandry soil.

3. Move potted plants to a warmer spot next to the house or under a patio cover, especially on the south side.

4. Cover your plants in the late afternoon, to help take advantage of radiational heat from the soil.

5. Keep your Christmas lights handy. The old-fashioned bulbs (not the new LEDs) give off enough heat to provide 3 degrees worth of protection.

LOVE IT!!, may I ask, do you just paint it and then use a spray glue to adhere lace, or is it ...»
another technique? do you share your expertise on how to redo? if so id love to know what to use and if it's a certain type of paint? I have 6 dresser's and like you, seem to accumulate more. but alway's believe I will find an outrageous way to spify it up. ( I just need more wall's in my home, to put all the furniture I find?) Your's truley Vintage at heart.

  • I took three old chairs that I found in an alley and pieced them together to make a super unique curvy bench. I used outdoor fabric so that it could be used inside or out.

Three found chairs made into a curvy bench!

I found these three chairs in an alley. I have been hunting three chairs for just exactly this project. These were just exactly what the Dr. ordered for putting this project into action. The arms and legs had to have a little adjustment...but I'm super happy...can't wait to find three more! http://www.dejavuedesigns.com/triple-sitter-... #Bestof2012 ...»

Fairy Garden

I did this fairy garden myself. I made the fence out of popsicle sticks, bought the house (bird feeder house), made the wire walkway arched trelis out of jewelry wire, and made the table and chairs. The table top was a little pocket mirror I found at Michael's. I also found a pond at a thrift store with a dog drinking out of an old water pump which you can sort of see on the left hand side in the picture. The butterfly is just a clip on I found at Michaels. I also got the two ...»
little potted plants at Michael's as well. The pots didn't come with the flowers, but I had some flowers laying around the house I glued in there. The pebbles for the pebbled walkway & the moss used as grass I got at the Dollar Tree. I got the plants and flowers surrounding the house at Lowes along with the pot it is in!
