About Me:

We bought a forclosed home in Sept 2011 and moved in Nov 2011. We have done a lot of remodeling, before and after moving. I'm enjoying fixing up the outside of it this summer.

Favorite area of home improvement:

Inside and outside..I love anything that is country, or country french.

  • Just say NO to the dreaded door stopper. You won't need it anymore after this fix.
  • Remove the hinge pin from the middle hinge or bottom hinge.
  • Slightly bend the hinge pin using a hammer and scrap piece of wood.

Fix a Door that Closes or Opens by Itself

Anyone else have this problem: your door automatically closes or opens?

Before this simple fix we had to use a door stopper to keep the bathroom door from ...»

closing.

My wife was just a bit perturbed when I told her how easy this repair was to do. The back story is that we've had this issue for 6 years (and yes, she's been after me to do it for that long).

Please don't judge me too much!! I apologized to her and have done several things to make it up.

Here's what you do, pull the hinge pin from the middle hinge. If you only have two hinges then pull the pin from the bottom hinge.

Place the hinge pin on a scrap piece of wood. Tap the center of the pin with a hammer (2-3 times depending on how much spinach you eat).

This puts a slight bend in the center of the pin. The bend will prevent the door from moving by itself.

Put the pin back in the hinge and you're done!! No more door that closes or opens by itself :)

Don't be like me, do this easy weekend DIY project and stay on the good side of your spouse-LOL.

In case you'd like to see how to do this via a short video check out my post at http://www.homerepairtutor.com/fix-a-door-th...

  • We asked a friend to build us a dog house....a few days later he had this idea. He already had these old cabinets.
  • They cut out 2 holes for doors. The original cabinet doors still open, for easy cleaning. Put on a latch and a roof. We already had paint...so it just needs to be painted. TOTAL COST LESS THAN $20.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1

  • One little pic of one dog house, who would have ever though it would get so many views...

Geeezzz........... let me explain

Almost 4 yrs ago when I married my husband..he came with 5--25lb dogs !!! They look like chows...They were all rescue dogs as small puppies with their mom. He found them all alone behind a huge storage tank full of gasoline. I came with a winnie dog, and 2 chihuahua's. Does this sound like people who don't care about animals ? We also now have cats and kittens..We moved in Nov 2011..In our other house the dogs had a small yard with a lot of sun. And a small laundry room to get in ...»
during the rain and winter. They hate thunder..so I would let them come into MY KITCHEN..5 LONG HAIR DOGS. Does this sound like people who don't care about animals ?? When we got this house, it was a lot better for the dogs. We have NEVER CHAINED THEM UP!! They have a large shady fenced in area and a breezeway to get in. The reason of building the dog house..was so they would get out and get exercise. These dogs are 13-14 yrs old...2 have passed away. They have food, fresh water, and treats DAILY !! Does this sound like people who don't care about animals ?? The dog house was not built for them to feel like they are in prison..but to get them outside and exercise, and get out of the rain, etc. ALL OF OUR ANIMALS ARE FIXED AND UP TO DATE ON THEIR SHOTS,ETC. DO WE SOUND LIKE HUMAN BEING WHO DO NOT LOVE OUR ANIMALS ????????????????????

Internet: You have to be thick skinned. I have ran Facebook pages for missing people. You ...»
would be appalled if you saw the things they have posted to the Missing Boards.

On this page you can't delete their comments. But you can delete your posts. You can also not reply. This takes away the power. Reply to positive, don't reply to negative. They do not know you and there have been times I have re-written certain things because if more than one have misinterrupted it, if my writing isn't clear even if my intentions were good. I also don't defend myself. There is no reason. It doesn't help. I apologize if I made a mistake (misinformation) but once I apologize I won't let it keep being brought up. On this page you cant control that. so dont reply to the negitive posts. This isn't about whether I find you wonderful or not. Heck anyone who has taken in all those animals is wonderful to me! It is about being able to deal with negative people. It shocks you the first time it happens. And your stunned. But don't let this stop you from posting. And some people, not many, a few are trollers. These ignore. Report them. Please keep posting. This also happens to everyone. Read other bloggers on here who have had people write and tell them they hate their posts.

DOG HOUSE IS NOT HOT !!!!!!

Thanks for all the postive feedback about our dog house. That was made from a cabinet. It was made for them, to stay in the fence area and roam around to get exercise and to stay out of ...»
the rain, etc. Our yard stays shady 90% of the day..look for yourself. The metal is not hot..I have touch it throughout the day..the inside is not hot either. There are cows in fences, that their backs are hotter than my dog house is. My dogs love it, get in it, and take naps in it....all that is all that matters !!!!
