Design & Décor: Chevron Wood Wall- What should we do with it?

We have a chevron wood wall in our family room. I have no idea what to do with it. Right now it is stained an orangeish brown color.... very dated and dark. Same thing with the fireplace, ...»
the brick is dark red and just dated looking. What do you think? What would you do? We installed dark hardwood floors throughout the entire home and the walls in here are painted French Gray- a Blue/Gray. Help!! Here is a link to my pinterest board to kind of show my style and what I like: http://pinterest.com/ashopaholicmom/for-the-...

My first thought was to incorporate lighting. Then I checked your page and saw lots of ...»
lights!! I'd add crown molding with rope lighting underneath to accentuate the wood. Then maybe add lots of nature (all cool colors)... succulant shadow boxes/ linen matted pics/etc. Uplighting from below can also "lighten" things up, no pun intended.

  • Same pond just bigger. Stucture was 4 1/2 feet tall and wrapped around the end with the 4 cascading tiers. Here is a pic of the finish in August 2011. The natural rock came from our ground from making flower beds and grading out our own driveway that was paved. We are on a rock vein here. Every shovel was a rock. Digging bar was our best friend. Unfortunately the earthquake collapsed it in August. Glad I had pics to remember it. It took a year and half to get all this rock from the ground and continuously add to it. I still have all of it and thinking I may just do another one in the back yard. 2

Wondrous Peacock Topiaries

One of my favorite facebook pages for gardening inspiration is Old Moss Woman's Secret Garden. I'm still not sure exactly who Old Moss Woman is. Her page is wonderfully mysterious to me, ...»
all I know is that she collects and shares the most incredible photos of nature and gardening and posts them.

I messaged her to ask for permission to share here which she graciously granted. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did.

Here's her page if you'd like to check it out:

Vegie gardening ~ Tomato trellis.

My new tomato trellis is working out quite nicely. Very easy to see and maintain the plants and decorative too! That gingerbread molding on the top is 158 years old and my husband fashioned the galvanized tops by hand.
