  • 1/4 cup of distilled white vinegar
  • 1 cup of water
  • Step 1: Pour vinegar and water into a microwave safe measuring cup or bowl. 1
  • Step 2: Place measuring cup or bowl in the microwave and heat it until boiling; this will vary by microwave. Its best to keep a close eye on it as it begins to boil. Over boiling may cause excess steam to build up causing the microwav
  • Step 3: Allow the measuring cup or bowl to remain in the microwave for approximately five minutes so that the steam can accumulate inside the oven.
  • Step 4: Carefully open and remove the measuring cup or bowl .Wipe the inside of the microwave clean with a damp sponge. For stubborn stains dipping your sponge in the remaining vinegar and water mixture (careful not to burn yourself )

Throw in some cinnamon for a great smell, especially after a bag of burnt popcorn.

Our Under $100 Closet System IKEA Hack

We bought our house as a foreclosure and as such the previous owners had removed EVERYTHING! Bathroom mirrors, closets rods and shelves, all the things you take for granted. You don't ...»
realize how costly replacing all of that can be until you have to do it.

We managed a custom closet system for two closets under $100 each using the IKEA Billy bookcase and a few slight modifications resulting in a custom look that could've costed us hundreds of dollars more. Add a few shelves and bars in between two Billy bookcases and you've got yourself an easy DIY custom closet on the cheap!

Home Security & Alarms: Security for a restoration after a fire

We have a house that is being restored after a full gut from a fire. Just put in doors and windows and the house was broken into, took some of the copper out the walls. Any suggestions ...»
on securing the house at night. We don't have electricity yet, my understanding is that the house is connected "directly to the "box". The house is in another state.

Carpentry / Woodworking: Moved into a 50+ year old home that smells like a fifty year old home.

Lots of knotty wood pine cabinets, how can I get the smell out of the cabinets?

Don't use moth balls- that isn't just an odor, it's a chemical gassing out. I have one cabinet ...»
with the same problem, not sure why it's only one or what the source is. But I would think using a good primer on the insides of the cabinets would be the best bet. We used primer on our underlayment when we had to replace flooring (previous owner's cats used the entire house as a litter box!)- this helped tremendously.
