About Me:

We are a mother/daughter duo who love to blog about decorating, budget finds, repurposing items that maybe should have been thrown away, food, DIY projects, and our travels. Our blog is unusual because we live in two different parts of the country and are experiencing two different seasons of our lives. Therefore, calling ourselves The 2 Seasons just feels right. We have something for everyone here at the mother/daughter blog.

  • After some good teamwork between my husband and me, this is our finished product. We spend lots of time out here.

We Built Our Patio

When we bought our house, the back yard was full of gravel. We sold it on Craig's list, and got to work grading the soil and building a brick patio. Here is a step by step description of ...»

  • I bought the basic green baker's rack at a second-hand store and spiffed it up with some spray paint.
  • I added some cute accessories, and it is the perfect courtyard screen. It hides the radon equipment.
  • The accessories can easily be removed when we need it to hold food or drinks when we entertain.

Baker's Rack Becomes Bar/Server

  • First, we bought this book which gave us step by step details.
  • This is the area where we decided to build the garden. It doesn't look too great, does it?
  • We bought the supplies and built the forms just like the book instructed.
  • Then we filled it with a good soil mixture and added wooden slats to divide the space into square feet.
  • We labeled all of the squares so we would know what we planted. Once the garden started producing, we add flowers and fresh vegetables until the first frost. Success!!!

I've been square foot gardening since the 1980s when Mel came out with his first book. Just ...»
started 4 more 4x4 raised beds. Thought I would try out the new "Mel's Mix". This saves so much room and can be done in any size just about. If you have 1 square foot anywhere, you can grow things. It's a great method for small areas.

  • First, you put a piece of painter's tape on the back of your art and push a pencil in to the two holes.
  • Attach the tape to the wall and use a level to make sure it is straight. Then pound the nails into the two pencil marks.
  • Then use a level to give it one final inspection to make sure it is the way you want it. It is simple and mistake free.

Here's An Easy Way to Hang Art Straight

Do you have trouble hanging your art and projects so they are straight on the wall? We did, too, until we started using this method. Check it out here: http://the2seasons.com/2012/07/23/how-to-han...

  • To update the look even more, I added scrapbook paper under the glass to disguise the dingy-looking wood.

Give Furniture a New Look With Paint

We had some tired stacking tables in mahogany that were in desperate need of a reinvention. I did it with Annie Sloan paint and Briwax. It didn't take long at all. http://the2seasons.com/2013/05/08/i-painted-...

  • This book gives 35 quotes from Shakespeare's poems and sonnets that mention flowers, herbs, or plants.
  • Type out the quotes that mention the plants you want to have. You can make it as rustic or refined as you want.
  • You can have all of the plants together or you can spread them out throughout your garden.

Plant a Shakespeare Garden

There are Shakespeare Gardens in Central Park and in San Francisco. Now you can have one in your own backyard, no matter how large or how small it is. See how to do it here: http://the2seasons.com/2013/05/06/my-adorabl...

See how I spruced up a "dirty" shady outdoor space!

I have a little shady area that I always struggled making look "clean". A painted Oriental Rug that POPS with color is a great way to hide a dirty spot! I paint them right on the concrete. I share more details on my post.
