About Me:

I'm very eclectic and my interests span a broad range - from art and music to interior design and photography.

Favorite area of home improvement:

I like cleaning, organizing and sprucing things up, and anything crafty. But I especially like interior design and architectural details the most. My favorite styles would be Traditional, Shabby Chic and Eclectic.

An old dresser drawer makes for a great dog bed. Just ask Rosie. Add a parasol for a bit of shade (and fun).

  • This rustic piece started as an old discarded cabinet with broken handles. 2
  • We used old branches from the yard as hardware in keeping with the rustic look 1
  • A cat flap and vent were added. 1
  • The cabinet was gutted with the drawer fronts mounted on wood and hinged to open freely to clean the litter box 1
  • Coco started using it that day, and it's been wonderful to have the litterbox out of the bathroom. Coco loves the privacy too. 3

You'll never guess what's inside this cabinet..

Take a guess what's on the inside of this rustic piece. You'd probably never expect it. An old discarded cabinet takes on a whole new purpose.

The entire makeover can be seen at Recaptured Charm.

Creating a Built-In Look for Your Dishwasher

I recently painted my kitchen cabinets, and wanted to give the dishwasher a built-in look. We used beadboard and 1 x 4s to create a look that matches our cabinets. The top is hinged to allow access to the dishwasher controls.

DIY Painted French Bee Server From a Mismatched Buffet...

I was thrilled to do a project using graphics from the Graphics Fairy and have it featured on the DIY Graphics Fairy site. ...»

We started with a buffet that had been repaired over its lifetime and was not living up to its potential.

After sanding and painting with homemade chalk paint I hand painted a bee motif using a projector as a guide then we waxed it and married it to a beautiful mirror we had to create a server for our dining room. I would love to know what you think...To see the whole guest post and learn about the process... just click on the link!

Small bathroom remodel

We remodeled this small bathroom years ago. I still love it, and from what I've seen and read, it still seems to be in style.

Chalk Paint... I had to try it! The homemade version.

With all the buzz about chalk paint, I had to give it a try. We had a scabby old dresser that didn't owe us anything. It seemed like a low risk adventure! We made a backplate out of an ...»
old board and found a wooden decorative piece in an box of spare parts. The recipe we used was 5TBS. plaster of Paris mixed with 2TBS. water added to 2cups of paint. We got a bit aggressive with the sanding back, I may go lighter next time.

The knobs are end caps salvaged from some metal rods that we had in the basement.

  • My glass stovetop gets these burn stains on it all the time, usually from boiled over water. Gross.
  • I've used baking soda to clean my stovetop in the past so I thought I'd try using the Arm & Hammer toothpaste instead of making my own paste. It worked GREAT!
  • Smear the toothpaste on the dirty parts of your stove top and then let it sit for 15 min.
  • The baking soda toothpaste worked great and took the gunk right off!

  • I started by removing the covers and washing them.
  • I labeled the "fluff" taken from the back cushions so I wouldn't get confused when it was time to re-stuff.
  • I used this quilt batting ($9.99 at Walmart) to beef up the cushions.
  • I simply trimmed the batting and wrapped it around the bottom cushions to boost their fluff-ability. Yep. That's the technical term. ;)
  • I put the covers back on the new beefed-up cushions and now my couch looks as good as new.
