"floating floor". So is commonly installed over slab...a good vapor barrier underlayment will also help. My first choice on slab is tile...then hardwood built over an insulated "built up" subfloor...this works great in new construction ...but can be problematic in renovations with door heights walls etc. For remodel work...engineered is often the quickest and easiest...and therefore more cost effective.
