Potting Table

My husband built me this potting table using a century old door (curb find). I got ideas from pinterest on building and decorating it. I just love it!!!

  • Don't they make a handsome couple? 3
  • It's a good, deep wheelbarrow with an everlasting wheel, but the 1970s orange colour was not working for me.
  • I made just one stencil, fitting the side of the wheelbarrow and used it for everything including the lawnmower.
  • I got so excited when I did the wheelbarrow that I forgot to take a before photo of the lawnmower-it was the same orange colour. 2

Stencil Your Garden Gear

I purchased this used wheelbarrow and lawnmower when we moved to our new home. They were in good working condition but I wasn't loving the orange colour or rust spots. Since I was going ...»
to paint them anyways, I figured I might as well make them pretty.

I used spray paint suitable for metal items and made my own stencil. There are full instructions on my blog here: http://www.empressofdirt.net/stencil-your-la...

TIP: If you tend to lose sight of your hand tools while working in the garden, consiider spray painting the wooden handle ends to make them easier to find.

  • Here is it - sorry the Christmas picture is the only one I currently have. :-) It is in great shape and the hearth is also in perfect working condition. But is it too dated? 2
  • I found this picture on Houzz.com and I love the updated stone and mantel. Can I add a mantel and get close to this look? Should I color the stone in the tan family? So confused. :-)

Real Stone Fireplace...keep it "as is" or do a makeover? I can't decide! HELP!

Ok I need your honest opinions. This is my fireplace in my family room and it is from 1977. It is real stone and is very "ski lodge". Now I don't hate it but obviously it can use some ...»
major updating. Lemme know what you think - don't worry about sparing my feelings - I need to know what you really think. Thank you for your help!

Keep it!!! OMG, I'd kill for that fireplace as well!!! My dream is to have one like it one day ...»
in our family room. I have read, maybe on here, there is some kinda finish that "renews" stones, a wax/sealand type application, that might make it look more like the second picture, but if you add a big, chunky mantle I think you'll be thrilled!

  • Here is the AFTER - it is not completely finished but I am thrilled with the result so far. :-) 1
  • This is the BEFORE. It is a very nice door - but it was just boring. Dated honey oak with brass sidelights. It just needed a little "something".

Paint and scrap wood update for my interior front door...

I was never thrilled with the honey oak front door with brass inserts. As I am working on updating my entry foyer, I decided to .... dare I say it.... paint the solid wood door! I only ...»
painted the side lights white and I darkened the actual door for a new look. I am excited for the way it totally changed the look of my foyer. It also cost me about $4.00 for one piece of wood as I had the other stuff laying around the house. Yay!

For a brief tutorial on how to do this, you can view my blog... Thanks!

Flooring: We are going out tomorrow, yes I know, I am late asking about Lumber Liquidators. Any dealings with them?

We want to get laminated flooring and don't know really where to go specificly to look for one. I should have asked days ago. ...»

Thanks everyone. I checked with the BBB about lumber liquidators and they have a massive amount of complaints so we are not going there.

Thanks KMS Woodworks, so far no problem at all. My neice cleans our house and she moves it ...»
very quickly, in fact she is sweating once she makes it through the whole house! I appreciate you telling me as we will keep a close eye on it and if it seems stressed, we'll discontinue. I think the main thing is it is only on for literally a second, not sitting on it steaming it. She is very careful to do it fast so it just cleans and doesn't ruin. Again, I do appreciate the reminder to be careful with it! ;-)
